NYS TEACH online website
I thought I had read on here somewhere that faculty meetings count towards your in service hours for your professional certificate.. Does anyone know if that is true? If so, how do you put that in?
My certifciation is up in June and I have to put my hours in.
After my hours are in, do I have to do anything else? Is there anything to submit to the state?

Re: NYS TEACH online website
I just got my professional certficates. I had to have:
Proof of 3 years paid full time teaching
Proof of 1 year mentoring
Proof of intitial certification (plus all the requirements that go with it, such as fingerprinting, tests etc)
Be a US citizen
A recommendation from the university program I went through, plus transcripts
I'm going to find my folder of certification stuff and see if there was anything else.
Oh, and of course you have to pay.

Re: NYS TEACH online website
I have had mine since 2005 but have to renew it..
What counts towards my hours? Do I have to submit anything else to the state?
I have been having a hard time getting someone on the phone from BOCES to help me

Re: NYS TEACH online website
I graduated the same year and would love to know this too. No one in my district in the city seems to know. I don't want to lose my reading license.

Re: NYS TEACH online website
Some faculty meetings count toward PD, but not all.
I thought your district is responsible for submitting and keeping record of hours. Mine does this for us. We do have to fill out a sheet at the end of the year.

Re: NYS TEACH online website
Do you currently have initial certification and are going for professional certification?
OR
Do you have professional certification and are looking to renew that?
My district has had many meetings on exactly what is required. Let me know which one you are going for and I will fill you in.

Re: NYS TEACH online website
Many things count towards your hours, here is a brief list:
-Grading any state assessment test
-Any professional development you have done either in your school or outside of school (ie taking classes at a college)
-Superintendent conference days where you receive professional development
-Curriculum Development
-Conferences
-Did you mentor a new teacher?
-Did you observe another teacher?
-There are more, but I will have to look back at my notes from the mtg I attended last year.
According to my asst. superintendent, regular faculty meetings DO NOT count towards your hours
ETA: My school does not keep track of our hours (per se). Instead, we get a sheet of paper each year where we are suppose to keep track of our hours and then at the end of the year, we are suppose to make a copy and submit it to the district office.
Additionally, if you still have initial certification, you do not need to start keeping track of PD hours. This only goes into effect when you get your professional certification.
