October birthdays ..Kindergarten classmates
DS b-day is in October and his party wil most likely be the 1st weekend in October...
We are most likely doing a home party (we usually can still get away with a backyard thing weather wise)...
Do we have to invite his class
He won't really know anyone yet I would think Next year would be different I would imagine because he will have made some pals... As it is we usually have a huge party for him, so this is going to get pretty interesting
Also, when do parties become school friends only ? And what fo you do , have a seperate party for family and "other" friends on another date

Re: October birthdays ..Kindergarten classmates
I invited the whole class starting in Kindergarten (mid- Sept bday here). I thought of it as a great way to meet the parents and the kids in the class. I also scaled down to just immediate family and grandparents after that.
Do whatever you want - but be prepared that he'll be invited to other kid's parties so you may have to answer his questions as to why he couldn't have so&so at his party.
Also some moms drop off at parties. I was surprised to have it happen so early. It's usually moms with older children who is playing taxi to soccer games and dance.

Re: October birthdays ..Kindergarten classmates
Well, DD's b-day is on 9/7 (hello...awkward!) and although she's entering K, she'll know almost all of the girls from Pre-K. This is my plan...
We're having a "friends" party (which will be mostly school-friends and all girls regardless) at home probably on 9/18, around 12-2 or so; the family will come afterwards. I'd like to get it all out of the way in one day...that's what I did last year too.
I'll send out the invitations 3-4 weeks in advance to those for whom I have addresses. If there are any new girls in September, I'll get in touch with the moms and invite them during the first week of school.
Last year, I didn't have any school friends since she wouldn't really know anyone, but I do agree that in October it's a nice way to get to know people.
It's funny, DD and I have been invited to b-day parties for most of the girls in her class who've celebrated this year already; however, I am pretty friendly with one of the "boy moms" and she said NOT ONE boy has had a birthday party! Maybe people are fearful of welcoming in 15 5 year old boys into their home!

Re: October birthdays ..Kindergarten classmates
My son is late Oct so they had a month to settle in but I wish I invited the entire class in K. I did it in 1st grade and it was the best thing. For me too, I got to meet a bunch of the parents. He is my oldest and DH & I didn't know a lot of parents in the school. That wasn't our plan when doing it but it worked out really well. For my kids, I've done bigger parties for their 5th & 6th bdays then smaller ones thereafter. At least that's my plan, which I implemented with my DS's 7th bday.

No not terrible at all. My son is turning 5 on 9/30 also. He has been going to the same pre-school/day care for 4 1/2 years. I am inviting his friends from day care. I am also leaving room if, per chance, he becomes fast friends with a few kids in his kindergarten class, we can invite them as well.

Re: October birthdays ..Kindergarten classmates
we have a late Oct bday and I found it hard too to decide who to invite and who not to. So we invited his entire class. Only less than 1/2 came and those turned out to be the ones that went to all the parties/school events throughout the year.
