Sometimes I really wonder what's wrong with people. My DH's uncle (who was married to my MIL's deceased sister) brought A DATE to my MIL's surprise party. Unbelievable.

I agree. He should have let your grandma know as it has been 5 years and he does have every right to continue his life.
A little respect would have been nice too.
