Oil and gas- insulation etc.
I know most people say gas is cheapest. We have it now but our house was built in 1953 with no insulation and it's a split with one zone heating. Found a house - built 1939 (solid) but oil heat- above ground oil tank. Thoughts on costs for heating? I know we could always convert to gas but that would be at least 5 years out. TIA!

Oil and gas- insulation etc.
We also have a older, poorly insulated house and gas is at least 5x cheaper than oil. We literally spent thousands in the winter to fill our oil tank.

Oil and gas- insulation etc.
It's likely going to be expensive to heat due to its age regardless of whether you do gas or oil. I would consider blown in insulation and redoing the attic insulation at some point. If the oil burner and tank are nearing the end of the of life, I'd consider a switch to gas, but keep in mind it can be costly to switch over if there is not an easy accessible gas line. It may not be as feasible as you think...

Same here. Big old uninsulated house, recently converted to gas and it is so much less expensive.
