OK - humor me, I'm a first time K Mom.....
My son's teacher sent a letter home asking that he pack a 'healthy' snack and drink, separate from his lunch ...... Ok, I can handle that.
My embarrassing, stupid question is .......Um, what to I pack this snack in? I'm not sending him in to school w/ 2 lunch boxes .......so is there something on the smaller side I can buy that could still hold an ice pack for a drink and yogurt or cheese or something?
TIA

If his lunchbox has a separate bottom that zippers you can throw the snack in there and pack a full water bottle which should be enough for lunch and snack. I would just let your DS know you packed him a separate snack and where it is.

My nieces have one full water bottle that is enough for lunch and snack. If you think he will drink more then maybe you can pack him two.
I know my DS only drinks a little of his water for snack.

You're probably right - he's not a big drinker.
Thanks!

Re: OK - humor me, I'm a first time K Mom.....
I get my DD the lunchbox that has a separate zippered bottom compartment. Her lunch goes in the main part and her snack goes in the bottom..........this way she's carrying only one thing and it all stay cool and separate.
ETA - I have these cute plastic water bottles for her that are reusable and one bottle is enough for both her lunch and snack for the day. Amazon sells them.

We have to pack the classroom snack separate from the lunch because the lunch boxes get put in a bin to be sent to the cafeteria. I pack my dd's snack in a separate small insulated lunch bag.

Thanks - this is what I'm looking for. I'll have to go out and see if I can find something small

I get a small sack type lunch bag...the kind with Velcro that folds up. Easy and fits in her bag with her lunch bag.

I do two. One small bottle, juice or milk box for snack and small water for lunch.

This is how it works in my ds's school. I sent his snack in a brown paper bag (I think that's what they recommended). Very easy, and can just toss it when done!

I put the snack in a ziploc and I also pack a small cooler bag with waters. She takes one out for snack, one for lunch and one for during the day. The cooler bag is small and fits in the backpack.

Re: OK - humor me, I'm a first time K Mom.....
I send DD's lunch in an insulated lunchbox with a drink it gets placed in a bin. Her snack goes in a brown paper bag with another drink. There's a separate bin for snack. I am looking for one of those thin foldable lunch sacks but can't find it.
What is everyone packing for a healthy snack?

Some things I packed, some healthy some not
* Baby Bel Cheese *String Cheese *Banana *Grapes *Gold Fish *Graham Crackers *Organic Squeeze kids yogurt *Gogurt *Pretzels *Entemenns Muffins *Carrots & Dip *Crackers & Laughing Cow Spread cheese *Applesauce *Sugar Free Jello or Pudding *Special K fruit Crisp *Granola Bars
My kid is an eater so I would pack him two snacks (i.e. Grapes and baby Bel Cheese, or applesauce and banana).
I also started to limit the wet snacks to avoid spills since it takes them time to understand to clean up or put it away. So carrots and dip wasn't common in the beginning days. This is also why I would limit separate lunchboxes for snack and lunch if you can.

Re: OK - humor me, I'm a first time K Mom.....
I had the same question yesterday too!
I ended up packing him 2 Thermos containers with ice water because it was so bloody hot yesterday and he drinks a lot, plus I figured it'll stay cool in there since I wasn't going to pack 2 insulated lunch boxes. So I did one of those & a single serving of Goldfish in a small drawstring kid size bag. Something small being lunch is at 11:30 and I'd prefer he eat that.

Re: OK - humor me, I'm a first time K Mom.....
My DS' school requires water only in the classroom in the small bottles and a snack. Both have to be put in a brown paper bag labeled with their name.
I send usually apples, cheese sticks, cheez its, etc. He never eats all of it (or most of it)

Re: OK - humor me, I'm a first time K Mom.....
I still pack snack the same way now as I did in kindergarten.
Paper bag with a ziplock bag of the snack and a drink box for snack.
And then his regular lunch in his lunch box with a thermos of water.
ETA: And as far as a "healthy" snack, I give him whatever snack I would give him if he was at home even if its not exactly the healthiest.

I put in a ziplock in the front pocket for easy access. I don't pack water because he can refill his bottle (He is older now, but they did it in K).
I pack 2 little things, like a cereal bar and a small container with goldfish or pretzels. He used to love gogo squez, but not anymore. Too bad because it was very practical.

I pack the snack in a brown bag. I also send a water bottle to school in addition to the drink I send with lunch.
