OK am I awful for lying to my kids to get them to go to sleep?

Here's the short version of the story:

Every night recently, they have both been screaming when we say goodnight and leave their room to go to sleep- causing us to have to go in a bazillion times to get them to go to sleep.

When I put them down for a nap every day, they go down with no problems. They happily go into their cribs, and go right to sleep.

So I told DH to not help put them to bed tonight. We did the whole routine but then when it came time for lights out. I did it like I was doing a nap. Told him to leave the room, and I put them in their sleep sacks and laid them down myself.
Said "have a good nap, see you in a little bit," instead "of good night, see you in the morning."
And wouldn't you know it, they went to sleep ...
So am I horrible for lying to them?

I can't say you're awful because I did the same exact thing only technically you're just calling it a nap.

I used to say I had to check on Daddy & would be right back.

I usually say I have to go to the bathroom or get my pajamas on and I'll be back in a minute. By then, they are asleep and everyone is happier for it!

Yup! Chat Icon But be warned it's addicting...I find myself telling DS things like the McDonald's delivery truck didn't come in time to bring ketchup so he can't have any in my car Chat Icon

I say the same thing!!!!! She gets very upset when I say "night, night"...so I tell her that she's going in for a nap and we will play soon. She's fine with that, and she doesn't wake up until the morning, so we both win! Chat Icon

ITA. DD is almost 3 and she still think mommy & daddy nap when she naps and that we go to sleep when she goes to sleep....you know "You have to go to sleep b/c everyone is going to sleep now".

I can't tell you how many times I've used the napping excuse to get her to leave somewhere too...like when we have to leave BIL/SIL's, I tell her we have to go because it's her cousin's naptime so we have to go home....we have to leave playdates b/c it's other kids' "naptimes" too. Chat Icon

I don't really consider it lying, for all I know the kids could be sleeping when we leave Chat Icon

No way jose. That's great that it worked, and I don't consider it a lie-I mean you probably check on them in the middle of the night so you do see them "in a little bit". That counts!
