Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

Oh boy....

This was when she was little, little...but somehow we forgot to buckle her back up in the snap and go and we started to drive, looked in the mirror and she was scooted all the way down Chat Icon I felt awful and like a horrible mother!

Just other day I knicked her finger with a chair when she was crawling around, my heart broke yet again...she was shaking her hand doing the silent cry! I just hugged and kissed her hard!!

Yesterday i was doing laundry outside of her room and she tipped over a laundry basket and fell backwards, started whaling but that was more out of fear than anything else.

My worse moment...

I gave her a quick rinse off in the bathroom sink, she was kicking her feet playing all happy.

I turned on the hot water first, instead of cold. It hit her leg... she cried and gave me this look like "why did you do that to me ?"

it still kills me that I did that.

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

I have alot.Chat Icon

I have driven twice without strapping her into the carseat- once from Deer Park to East Islip- on the parkway and one other time I made it a few blocks when I suddenly remembered I didn't re-strap her.

I cut the tip of her finger when she was a newborn and I was cutting her nails.

She has fallen off of the couch- only about 8 inches, our bed- about 2 feet and the changing table.

I wacked her head into the doorframe of her bedroom when she was tiny.

Jeez. I suck!Chat Icon

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

I got Head & Shoulders into DD's eyes when she had cradle cap. I was so freaked out that I refused to hold her. DH had to do it.

About a month ago, DD pulled the telephone stand down and she was trapped underneath it.

I have had my moments when I felt that I couldn't do this. In the earlier months, DD was giving me a very hard time and I said to her that I need to find a job to get away from you. I felt so horrible and I just cried and cried.

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

oh I have some doozies...

- cut DS's finger when he was a NB cutting his nails
- DS has a big head Chat Icon and I cant even count how many times he has tipped over, we have hit his head putting him in the car, etc..

the best one though, that I am still scared from months later....

DS fell out of the shopping cart at BRU. I didnt see the fall but I will never forget the sound of his head hitting the ground. He was 22 months. And by the time he saw the dr (with in one hour) he was 100% fine.

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

I was cleaning a frame to put DS's picture in it...he was in his glider right below me.
It was a magnetic frame and I didn't realize the plexiglass was held very weakly by the magnet and just as DS looked up at me the plexiglass slipped off, and headed right for DS's EYE.......

The very sharp corner hit him about 1/4 inch away from his eyeball onto his eyelid.....started bleeding.

I cried hysterically for hours......I could've blinded him...Chat Icon

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

Shockingly I have not cut DS's finger when cutting his nails yet.

BUT, I have driven, a long way, while DS was not strapped into his carseat.

I've scratched him a number of times already...nails, rings, what have you.

I've bumped his head about a million times on the handle of the carseat while putting him into it (infant carseat).

Oh, did I mention that I'm basically a new mom as he's only 6.5 months old? Chat Icon Chat Icon

PS - I love this thread. Makes you feel like you're not the worst mother in the world and that we can all make mistakes! Chat Icon

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

Probably the worst moment was when she was just out of the infant seat and into the regular carseat. I was buckling the plastic buckle that's on the harness, and all of a sudden, I realized that she wouldn't let go of it. I went to move her hand and realized I had snapped her hand between the plastic pieces...

...all of this happened in a matter of about 2 seconds, and I looked at her face and she was like Chat Icon and then she started hysterically crying Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

Once drove home with DS in the infant seat but forgot to buckle him in.

When DD was 2 weeks old I hit her head against the door frame while carrying her.

I was snapping the strap of DS's hat under his chin when he was 3 months old, and caught the skin - ouch!

I let DS have cake with chocolate frosting when he was only 6 months old.

Oh and also (the Jewish girls will get this) when DS was 7 months old we were celebrating Passover, and during the seder when we did the Ten Plagues, instead of putting the wine on a napkin, I put my finger in DS's mouth Chat Icon Chat Icon He loved it!

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

OMG sooooo many.... I am a terribly negligent mother. Chat Icon

Nick: Fell out of the highchair and knocked his front tooth out at 10 months old.
Stood in the shower when he was 4 months old (I hadn't slept or showered in 3 days) and seriously considered dropping him off at one of those Safe Haven places. I was only 17 Chat Icon

Becky: Knocked her head into the wall when walking from room to room.
Put her in the car seat without checking if the buckles were hot and seared a buckle-shaped burn into her leg. She still has the scar.

Juliana: She dislocated her shoulder when she fell off the bed 2 weeks ago.
DH basically cut the tip of her finger OFF when trimming her nails with clippers.

WOW!!! We are really awful parents!!! I'm sure there are a bajillion more that are not quite so awful as well!!

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

Cut her finger clipping her nails

At 7 1/2 months she fell off the changing table (worst sound / moment EVER)

I was driving her to daycare when she was only like 12 weeks old and look in the back and the whole car seat had tipped over...apparently the base wasn't secured properly.

I've inadvertently scratched her with my ring or my nails.

I accidentally pinched the back of his neck while trying to snap his bib, I didn't realize his skin was in between. He screamed and I cried. Chat Icon

I also drove around the block without him buckled in.

This almost happened to DS last week Chat Icon The mere thought of it scared the living cr@p out of me. You know when you can envision something happening and watch it play out in your mind?? Yea...lets just say I'm terrified of putting him in shopping carts now. I hoover over him haha! I cant even imagine how scared you must have been. Chat Icon

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

The first thing that comes to mind for me is-

DS was just a little over a month old and we were having a new refrigerator del to the apt....... Hubby is at work.... they come @ 7 am and ring bell- I go down to let them in- we all go upstairs - they measure doorways and what ever- i makew a bottle for DS cause he will be up soon...... they go back downstairs to get frige- I have to go back down to let them in- i'm holding door for them downstairs and one guy went up w/ the frig doors----- he says mam- the door is closed--- I say just turn the knob it will open- he says no mam its locked! ----- I freak the F out cause now I have no key no phone and my DS is inside!!!! I know on friends door (who has spare key) but he's not there! I use the guys phone to call DH- but he don't answer cause he don't know the #!!!!! I leave a frantic message! He finally calls back and says he will be there asap- They guys leave- I at this point put my ear to the door and can hear DS screaming his little lungs out! I just want to die!!!!!! DH flew home and that was my horrible Mommy momentChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

I closed DDs finger in the bedroom door once.

I've bumped both of my kids' heads on door frames several times. DS has never cried. Apparently god saw me the first time & determined I should have a child with a hard head the second time around Chat Icon

When DD was in the snugride I didn't click it into the base all the way. I was driving & I looked in the rearview mirror & watched as it started to tilt over.

DS fell off the bed while I was literally sitting right next to him. I just couldn't react quickly enough.

Re: Ok Ladies... Let's fess up

Both of my kids fell off the changing table

I've hit their heads on the top of the car putting them into their carseats many times.

I've been late a few times to pick Jack up from preschool and he once said to me "Why do you make me the last kid to be picked up, I wasn't sure if I had a mommy coming to get me." OUCH!

While holding them on my hip, I've cut the corner of a wall or hallway too close and have bumped them into the wall.

Pretty much all clutzy things!
