ok lets try this again....

If a friend told you that they make 60,000 a year would you consider that a good salary?

I would say it's good.

I consider greater than 75,000 to be "great"

Re: ok lets try this again....

Depends on where they live. In Texas, that is a good salary. In NY, maybe not. Cost of living is a big factor. Plus, it depends on if they are married, have children, what are their expenses, what is their career potential.

Re: ok lets try this again....

yeah, still vague...it's not a bad salary but how good is it depends on so many things. Is it good for what they do and their years of experience and where they live? Don't know.

Depends on location and position.

I think that is a solid salary.

depeding on the field...??? i don't know..

as far as that salary and living on LI- it can be done- but location, spending habits, children or no children, kinds of bills they have-all have to be taken into account

It totally depends on what they do, where they live, the level of their experience, so many factors.

If they are an attorney or a dr., no, if they are an admin on LI, that's pretty good, if they are an admin in NYC, not great....

Depends on the position. I don't think it's horrible, but its not fantastic, either. I think it's decent, for sure.

Re: ok lets try this again....

If they were 21 and right out of college, very good. At 30 with experience...It's OK. Most of my friends from college are in large companies and are making much more than that.

There are just too many factors involved though.

Re: ok lets try this again....

Yea. . . It depends on the persons situation. For me 60,000 is a good salary because I'm not married yet and I'm two years out of college.

To me it sounds like a good salary for 1 person but Dh and I both work in the non-profit sector so my views may be a little skewed!

Re: ok lets try this again....

depends on alot of different factors

position
experience
hours put in

etc

for example
60,000 is good for an admin who works 9-5

but for someone with a degree and tons of college and/or experience, - i'd say its mediocre

Re: ok lets try this again....

location, location, location!

In Wichita, KS you can buy a mansion on that salary. In Long Island, NYC, Jersey, Connecticut, South Beach, Chicago, Los Angeles, etc... you can rent a decent apt in a decent neighborhood.

Re: ok lets try this again....

In NY, for my job, I'd say yes. for DH it is waaay under.

(DH is a tradesman with 12 years experience, while I am middle management with a 4-year degree).

Like everyone else says, it depends on many factors. For me, personally, if I heard $60,000 I would think it is "ok". Anything over $100,000 I would consider to be good.

Re: ok lets try this again....

I work in higher education, so that would be an awesome salary...but like other posters said, it depends on the field and location.

Re: ok lets try this again....

I think it's a decent salary... I think it depends on their living situation as well. Are they married? Do they own a house? Where do they live? What other expenses are there?
