Re: ok lets try this again....
It depends on the job and the hours, but I'd say it's decent. It also depends on the other benefits - pension, 401k, medical, dental, vacation, sick time, etc. If the other benefits are good, it makes the salary seem better.

Re: ok lets try this again....
In my district, if you have your masters degree and you've taught for about 5 years, that would be your salary (approx.).
To me, it's mediocre. Anything over 80k impresses me. Can't wait to get there!!!
But still, it depends on SO many things. If I made that living in the neighborhood that I do, I wouldn't even be able to rent a house. Or MAYBE I could rent a tiny house and just not eat. Sorry, being fecious.

Re: ok lets try this again....
I think it's decent. I am with everyone else though...it depends on a few things: is this a starting salary? Where do they live? What's their lifestyle?
I think a "good" salary is dependent on a few personal factors. If you are living in Brookville and have 9 kids, and 2 car payments, no...not so good. If someone is living within their means, then it's a good salary. A good sal;ary means, to me at least, that after bills, food, and necessities you have something to save. I also think it where you are in your career and what your field is also is a factor. If you are just starting out and making $60k, then that is pretty good. If you have worked your job for 25 years, or are worth more than your wage, then maybe not as good. But again, it's all relative to what your lifestyle is.

I consider it very good. I only make $40,000 and I've been in the work force since 99!

Re: ok lets try this again....
Once again, depends on the job. Im a CPA, so I would probably might not think so, same thing if said friend was a lawyer, banker, etc.
If they have a different type of job in an industry is not known to pay well, or if they didnt have certain qualifications, I'd think it was great.

Re: ok lets try this again....
Totally depends. I made more than that when I was working FT and I was underpaid..... I think there are so many factors to consider... field of work, experience, advanced degrees or licenses, etc.

Re: ok lets try this again....
I would consider it average in today's world and cost of living. To me over 100K or close to it is a good salary.

Re: ok lets try this again....
too vague to answer--depends on job, etc. I'm an editor. A high-level one at that. For my field, that would be nice. Now, my DH is a trader. If you told me someone in his field "only" made that, it would blow. Get it?! :)

Re: ok lets try this again....
I'm with all that say it depends. In my specific field it is good-here's why. I didn't to invest in college or any licenses, I don't really work full time-days are long but I'm off one day during the week. I have awesome benefits; medical/ dental, 401, keogh, flex plan & this year I have 4.5 weeks vacation & 1 week sick/personal time. So 60,000 is good.
Now that is WAY less than someone in my DH's trade with his experience should earn, however he has never had the great benefits I have.
If I have 4+ years invested in college, I'd expect to earn more than 60k on LI

Re: ok lets try this again....
It all depends. It is a decent amount but a lot goes into the equation
Where is this person living & working? What field are they in? What is their education level? Do they own or rent? How "spending" happy are they when it comes to pleasures? Do they have someone else to add to their income?

Re: ok lets try this again....
One person, I consider this pretty good. Two people combined, 60k is very low.
It also depends on how long you have been at the job. 60k is a great starting salary at most jobs. More then alot of jobs out there. Teaching on LI with a masters only starts at around 48-50k. Though in 20 years that same teacher will be making over 100k.

Yes definitely! DH and I might make a lot less then some, but we work for the state. Great benefits, pension, and job security for us.
