Ok, more early words questions
Ok, so we're going to the Ped next Saturday and I know they are going to ask how many words DS says. I do think my son is smart and he babbles ALL day long, but as like previous posts, he still doesn't say Mama.
So, would you consider these words: 1. if you ask him "how's it going?" he'll say "goo" (like good)
2. if you hand him something like "here's your juice, what do you say" he just this AM said "tank u" (mumbled, but it was there)
3. He'll say Dada while babbling, but sometimes does say "Daddie" (sorta) directed towards my DH.
4. all of the above doesn't happen ALL the time, just sometimes.
Thanks. Its frustrating reading how many kids younger than Liam are speaking more than him. I don't think he'll need EI or anything because if you ask him to get the ball, he'll get the ball, etc. Plus, he does babble all day long.
I do understand that all kids develop at different points. Liam was so advanced physically, but verbally he is behind. He will be 15 months.
Thanks

Re: Ok, more early words questions
I don't think he is behind verbally. My DD is 2 weeks younger your than your DS, and her only words are:
hi and cat And only now is she trying to say bye bye and uh oh.
She does not say mama or dada in the proper context. But babbles and has what she believes are conversations with us.
My sister is a pediatric nuerologist and says she is perfectly fine and on track. Some kids are earlier talkers, so are not.
I don't believe there is any cause for concern.
I know for my DD, I feel that when she does start to talk, it's going to happen all at once.

Kerry, my dear! He is PERFECTLY fine!! I see Liam plenty and I think he is right on target! RJ doesn't even say Mommy or have many words yet and he is 4 months older than Liam. Don't stress yourself, he is right on track and I am sure your doctor will agree!!

Thanks so much. I know, I'm usually NOT a worrier (generally very laid back and such). For some reason the "mama" thing really bothers me. I'm over emotional this week. LOL
This is why I love LIF. You girls bring things back to how they are.

Don't stress yourself. As long as they are saying something and understanding that is important. Don't worry about the mama thing my ds says many words he is 19 months but still won't say mamma. Daddie is his favorite word :)

Re: Ok, more early words questions
What you just describes is what DS is doing at nearly 19 months. He is doing fine. At DS 18 month visit to the ped, he asked how many words and I said I dont really know, because of the same thing you are describing. He asked if DS said mama, dada, bye I said yes and he said he is perfect. So don't stress

He's not behind. Just like many physical milestones, there's such a wide range for talking. My pediatrician wants to see 5 words by 18 months. If your pediatrician asks about words, you can explain what you wrote. DS also understands much more than what he can say. I think that's pretty normal.

Honestly, at 15 months I would not expect that much. He sounds like he is doing just fine.
If at 18 months you don't see some type of improvement then you take it from there - but so much can happen in three months!
ETA: I think it's great that you are on top of it, so many people don't even pick up on these things early on!

Kaydyn didn't say mama until 15 months. She called me and everyone else dada. At 15 months she maybe had 5 words and then in the months following her vocab exploded. He sounds like he is right on track and I would not worry.

Re: Ok, more early words questions
First mama was one of hte LAST basic words DS said. Dada, doggie, nonna, so many others before mama. Now all I hear is Mommy, Mommy, Mommy alll day long
Second, at 18 months was when DS just EXPLODED with language. he was talking before then but at 18 months it just CLICKED and there was no stopping him!
Third, many people I talk to have said, and I tend to agree, that kids who are more advanced with motor skills tend to maybe talk slightly later and vice versa. Its like their little brains are so focused on the one that they dont start the other until the master the first.
I totally wouldnt worry at all! Plus, more people than I can count say boys TEND to talk later in general.
