ok need help moms of toddlers or btdt moms
re: throwing toys?
can you or do you need to stop your kids from throwing toys? I was under the impression that I needed to b/c it seems like a bad idea but fast forward to now we spend all of our time and energy trying to stop her but it all she does all the time with all her toys. Do I just need to let it go? I'm so tired of putting her in time out and yelling all the time. Other than this new found compulsion to throw she's a really well behaved kid so am I making an issue out of something that's not. I guess I'm looking for someone to tell me that they did something that worked or that their kids just outgrew this as it is a phase.
Thank you for reading this

I don't think anything worked 100% of the time. If a toy got thrown in our house, it was put on a high shelf & in time out for the day.
I wouldn't let it go. If you do, she's going to think it's ok to throw things. Tell her no throwing inside the house (which of course means you don't throw things either...DH gets no basket shots for the garbage). Pick up the toy & say "the toy goes in time out." If you want, you can even scold the toy rather than her.
When Maddie was litte, I discipline stuffed animals for leaving Maddie's clothes on the floor. She laughed about it until she realized she couldn't play with that stuffed animal for the day & then picked up her clothes.

Thanks Barb for answering. I've been putting her in time out and it's not working so I guess we'll try putting the toys in time out. should be pretty funny since she'll be out of toys by the end of the day but that will probably persuade her to stop.

Re: ok need help moms of toddlers or btdt moms
DS LOVES throwing his toys or crashing his cars and trucks into my walls and furniture. He is 15 mo. and nothing seems to work. I think it is just a phase. I do make sure to tell him things like....no, that's not nice...you shouldnt play with your toys like that...etc.

DS is also 15 months and he is in a huge throwing phase. I also don't know the best way to handle it. It's especially hard when he's in the car in his newly installed, forward-facing convertible carseat. He throws everything and then cries that he doesn't have it!! Throws his pacifier, throws Elmo, throws his blanket, throws his cup. I don't know how to make him stop!

DS is 23 months and throws toys, his pacifier, napkins, etc. but only at DH. We take away the toys that he throws and he gets in trouble for throwing stuff at DH.

Re: ok need help moms of toddlers or btdt moms
My MIL told me that whenever DH or his brother would throw a toy and leave it on the floor, she would sweep it up and throw it out. They boys got the hint pretty quickly
Taking my MIL's lead, if Alex throws her toys, I tell her that if she can't play nicely with her toys that I'm throwing them out. It works well
