He gets $$$ for every time someone clicks on a hyperlink of a word. The advertising company decides which words have hyperlinks.
I have seen it on other boards. And someone has to pay Ron's bills.

The worst ones are the ones with sound.
Not conductive to sneaking a peek at work.
I said on parenting, these may actually prevent me from logging on at work anymore.
The work pop-up blocker is catching some and it's clogging everything up.

Come on guys, if everyone clicked on at least one link once a day, Ron gets paid and the site will continue as it is. Just think of how much better Ron can make the site for all of us with the extra revenue.

Before you judge (and I'm not saying your post was directed at anyone specific), I actually disabled mine before I knew what it was. I thought I had downloaded some adware by accident.

lol, wow.. are you the person who he sold the keyword hyperlinks to? seems like you're taking it pretty personally...
I could care less about the hyperlinks.. then again I work in online ad sales and deal with customer complaints about pop-ups and hyperlinks all day, so it kinda just rolls off my back to hear the complaints.
I agree Ron needs to get paid, but people are going to complain. If you're working off a semi slow pc, when you mouse over the hyperlinks it tends to freeze up your machine... that can be annoying to some people.
No one likes change. Everytime something changes on this site there are 100 questions about it. Some people hate it, some don't care. If you get so riled up about the complaints, don't read the threads questioning the change.
Bring in as much new advertising as you can Ron... it's all about the benjamins

Yahoo and Google use banners at the top of their pages, does that mean that you will click on them everyday to thank Yahoo and Google for providing you a free search engine?
I get WHY they are doing this, but doesn't make it any less annoying.

If you know why, then what's the point of complaining about it? Why can't you just give him a break, after all he's done for us?
I'm being so vehement because we are really really good at driving things into the ground and talking about them ad naseum.
If by us talking about it, it stops a 10,000 page thread that's going to make Ron and Co. feel bad about what they are being forced to do, and will probably ultimately get pulled, then so be it.
I'm saying we should be putting our gratitude for Ron ahead of our own complaints and understand his situation. He doesn't need to hear any of this.
Do it for Ron and his family, please.
