When my DD sleeps I leave her anywhere she falls asleep...a nap is a commodity these days and I don't want to wake her, ever, if she's sleeping peacefully!
DITTO DITTO DITTO If my child is sleeping, it can be on a picket fence and I'll leave her there. Most of the time the SECOND I take her out of the car her eyes are wide open and nap is over- so this is usually a moot point for me... but on the rare occassion she does stay asleep- first I check to make sure she is still breathing , then I leave her. It usually lasts less than 5 minutes anyway!

I would 100% take them out! Children have died from sleeping in infant seats. If you google it you can find more info and articles on it but here is one:
Carseats not safe for sleep
Carseats are not beds. Not a risk I am willing to take just to keep baby asleep.
But what if you are on a long car trip and they fall asleep in there? You are supposed to wake them to prevent this? I can see this being an issue with VERY young newborns maybe- but with a baby who has some head and neck control I can't see this happening.

I take DD out, especially now b/c we have the bundle me and she's a sweaty baby. She usually stays sleeping anyway.
Me too..I'm too afraid she would get over heated.

Re: OK so you come home and your infant DC is sleeping in their car seat....
c: Other/both
Sometimes I'd let her sleep, if she had just gone to sleep. If she'd been down a while and due for a feeding I'd take her out.
I'd say generally speaking I took her out. I had VERY tight space issues when she was that small and it was not really easy to keep her in there. We'd put the infant carrier away every time we came in to get it out of the way.
Then again..... Nothing wakes up AJ when she's REALLY out and doing this could also be why its so easy to take her out now as a toddler? maybe? I moved her into a convertible at 6mo so we've been 'removing her' for so long now.

For just a nap, I leave him in (but I'm constantly checking on him to make sure he's still ok). Anything longer than a nap (2hrs+), he's coming out.
I'm not comfortable with him sleeping in or even being in his carrier for long periods of time (I heard one horror story that will stick with me forever).

I read that extended periods in the car seat cause a drop in oxygen levels, so yes I would take dc out. Before I read that article I probably would not have thought much of leaving him in.

Obviously on long car rides benefits of using the seat outweighs the risk of this. I would allow my child to sleep in the seat on long car rides but when we take long trips I personally take them out every hour or two to stretch whether they are sleeping or not.
But none the less I have lost a child and if someone tells me a way to avoid even a 1% chance of lowering the risk of losing another child I jump at that chance to do whats safe. Like every other parenting decisions its a personal choice thats up to you. Having lost my child makes me see how important other choices are, ruining a nap isn't a real worry to me anymore.

Don't get it twisted...I say I leave her in there, but her naps are always 30 minutes or less...not like I'd leave her in there for hour upon hour! lol I never heard about it being unsafe, quite the opposite!

Never, I take her right out. It stinks but a. she is bundled up and probably too hot b. i do not like the risk of her sleeping in that position, since it could cause lower oxygen levels c.This is really insane but I don't want to get used to it. My BIL scootched himself off the table while sitting in a bouncy seat type thing, he wasn't even 6 months old then he did it (just by wriggling around!) and I cant keep her on the floor b/c we have a dog

i always take him out immediately because he has issues with flat head and the ped reminds me at every visit not to let him sleep in there.

I left him in the seat. He didn't sleep very good as it was as an infant. And it helped his reflux. I would prop the bottom of the seat with a pillow so he wasn't scrunched up.

Re: OK so you come home and your infant DC is sleeping in their car seat....
the only way i could get DS to sleep the first few weeks was in the infant seat. He had reflux, colic, HATED the bassinet and was the worst napper, so other than sleeping on me (which most nites he did) he slept and napped in his car seat.
i would leave him.
