Ok this is a vent post

I cannot take this anymore.

I’m grateful that I can work from home. I haven’t lost all my income, but I have lost some. I have savings thank god.

I have no kids. I have cats that are driving me mad. I teach online, but no one knows what to do.

I wake up and have a glass of water. I have a Xanax when needed. I call people in between zoom meetings (anyone up for an LIF Zoom meeting?). Damn, I feel so alone.

Everyday, I wake up like when is this going to be over? It’s like Sunday every day here.

They have extended the uni semester until August, so we can get our work done (semesters run from after Easter to July here).

This isn’t going to end anytime soon and I can’t take it.

Re: Ok this is a vent post

I know. I feel the same.
I wake up every morning with such anxiety. Such a knot in my stomach. I think the hardest thing is not seeing an end date. If there was a definite date- we have to do this until XYZ and then it will all be fine- at least you have something to look towards. A light at the end of the tunnel.

It's not normal to live this way. Humans weren't designed to be locked away, alone all the time for extended periods of time. It would be odd if we didn't feel this way.

And I can't imagine being totally alone. I at least have DH and DD with me.
Which is good and bad I guess.
But yeah, I am not sure how I'd handle total solitude. I feel for you.

Does the Xanax help at all?

The isolation is the worst. Zoom can only do so much.

I don't know the level of social distancing they have by you, like whether it's shelter in place or just social distancing, but if you can get outside and see other people, it will make you feel better. I know people are all like "going to parks is not social distancing!" but the mental component of this is just as important. For me,
waving to a stranger walking down my street or exchanging hellos with someone on a walking path makes a lot of difference and elevates my mood. Its so minor but its a human connection.

And I see people getting pissy about parks being open but I have been to several over the past few weeks and everyone has been doing a good job of staying separated so I think it's safe and good for the soul.

Vent away. I am also alone . While I still have to go into work, we are working a rotating schedule the last few weeks so my team is not all there the same days. But I work in my neighborhood a very short walk away, so I'm not even going far when I go to work. I suffer from anxiety and claustrophobia to begin with, and it;s so bad now. This weekend a very close family member died and I broke up with the love of my life, my best friend for literally decades, in the most dramatic and unrecoverable way possible. I cannot go into details about it, but someone who I have loved since I was 12 has completely cut me out of his life. And I know there are people who have it so much worse, I do. But these two completely unexpected losses, one on Saturday & one on Sunday on top of the social isolation and everything that is going on in this world right now is just too much for me to process. My anxiety is trough the roof and I just feel like I can't breathe. I am scared that I will break. And I really am trying my best to remain calm, because stress lowers the immune system and I know I can't afford to make myself physically sick right now. I pray for all of us.

Re: Ok this is a vent post

I only have a few Xanax left. I almost had a breakdown over my kids school work earlier, but I don't want to take the last of my Xanax. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a refill from my Drs office without being seen again because it's been a while. They might insist I come in and they aren't doing any sort of virtual visits.

The amount of school work is insane. It's a fight to complete even the easiest assignments. The infinite amount of distractions at home make this impossible. We're barely getting the basics done and then there is art, music and gym on top of it. I have to work, but I can't get that done because it requires concentration. I can't concentrate because my kid gets up and runs out of the room the second he sees I'm not paying attention. Why is this so hard? Chat Icon Chat Icon

I just want to quote this because doctors are very willing to give prescriptions without a doctor visit, at least here. I called my doctor and he faxed over the Rx. I had to wait 2 days to get the original prescription mailed to me, so I could pick it up from the pharmacy.

Some days I just want to break down. I just want to see a human, ffs.

Re: Ok this is a vent post

I wake up every morning and turn on the news and hope to see something different. But alas it never changes. It’s like a bad dream. It’s like Groundhog Day. We are all so very tired of the same day in and day out.

It’ll all be over at some point and we’ll move on and hopefully forget most of the garbage that has happened.

I think I’m having a moment and need to jump onto the vent boat...

I think the realization I’m having now is that this is not going to end in the way that we hope. The curve will downtrend and in a month or 2 social isolations rules will slacken. Then the second wave of the virus will ensue and the infections that were intentionally held off so the hospitals wouldn’t be overwhelmed will come. The fall will arrive and as always, the flu and now COVID will uptrend to those not infected yet. No viable vaccine will be available so soon, at least not one id be willing to try without better testing. God help us is the virus mutates the same way flu does every year and we start again with no immunity. The country won’t make it through that. If there is no mutation then there is hope that in 2021 our country’s health will stabilize. It’s just such a long road. Our country will never be the same.

It does sound somewhat plausible... Right now we aren't getting herd immunity and it's about 18 mos from a vaccine. So basically, all we are doing is what we were supposed to, flatten the curve as to not overwhelm the healthcare system (which would happen under this person's plan as people with no known pre-existing conditions are getting very ill and dying from this).

I have a feeling we will slowly restart life - very slowly and somewhat safely but, there will be a peak again, probably multiple, once we do - and we will be sick with every other bug under the sun as well since we've isolated ourselves from germs for so long.

I'm hoping school will start in the fall but, I am anticipating having to do more distance learning throughout the year.

It's frustrating though because there is no end in sight. We could basically be holed up at home until the fall... Although it's good for physical health, it is definitely not good for mental health.

If we find that COVID mutates like the flu, I would suspect there will eventually be a combo flu/COVID vaccine.

No one really knows how long it will take. It might be quicker. Regardless, once people become immune, more treatments are available and testing increases we will have a better handle on it.
