Ok-What should I expect with Similac Alimentum???
So the Dr. gave us a few samples of Similac Alimentum-she said to try it and see if it helps -I have heard that Alimentum can be gross and want to be prepared-What was your experience as BTDT moms.

I use Nutramigen, which is the same thing but Enfamil.
It's really smelly - smells like rotten Cheez Its.
The first week or so her poops were bright yellow and a little runny, but once she adjusted everything went back to normal
Is your DC milk allergic? If so, you can probably get it covered by insurance. I get a monthly supply delivered every month to the house fully covered by insurance.
Let me know if you need more details

Nope no milk allergy but she may be getting too much lactose for her preemie system her ped said. So she wants me to try this and see if it makes a difference. If it doesnt its probably a GI issue

Re: Ok-What should I expect with Similac Alimentum???
I EBFd DD but then the Dr. wanted her to have alimentum because of a milk/soy allergy. She absolutely refused it and I could NOT blame her. The stench was nasty. I couldn't even mix it with pumped BM because she would end up rejecting that and then I would have no BM left to give her.
I had to cut milk and soy out of my diet and continued to BF her.
She finally took it months later when I would mix it with her cereal.
Hope it works better for you.

You could also try the ready to feed alimentum. More $ but if all else fails. When she finally started accepting alimentum in her cereal or later on as a supplement she ended up actually liking the powder better but each kid is different.
Oh and did you mix the powder with water first? Then mix it with the BM....

Re: Ok-What should I expect with Similac Alimentum???
I always used RTF with my son. I had no issues and didn't mind the smell. It was a lighter formula so the first week on it my son spit up more than usual and started drinking more than normal. But it cured his digestive issues pretty much instantly (he wasn't going to the bathroom with regular formula and pushing all the time - winds up he is lactose intolerant - found out when we went to whole milk at 1). Colic and reflux - no such luck - that just had to run it's course.

Re: Ok-What should I expect with Similac Alimentum???
DD is on Alimentum...I use the RTF, and I don't find it all that smelly...
DD seems to drink it fine, we haven't had any problems...
Her digestive issues have calmed, she poops just about every day now and is in general a happier baby...
Though her poop is green...but I'm told by the Dr. that isn't a problem...

no the ped said I could add a teaspoon directly-maybe thats why I stopped mixing with BM last night and she takes it-fights but gives in. Guess she knew the difference.
