Similac Alimentum? & Insurance coverage?
I was wondering if anyone else is using Alimentum? DD had to be put on it after a really bad reaction to the regular formula. My ped said there is a chance our insurance might cover it. Here are my questions:
1. What store did you find it to be the cheapest at? So far we found it at Target for $8.99.
2. Is there anywhere that seals it by the case? We tried BJ's and Costco with no luck.
3. If you had your formula covered by insurance what did you need to do/say to have them cover it? My ped said he would write us a note stating it is a medical reason she needs to be on it.
Any help/suggestions you can give would be greatly appreciated. This formula is so expensive we are looking for a break anywhere we can find one.
Thanks!!

My friend had it paid for by insurance. Just call your insurance company and tell them and they will tell you the process. She needed a perscription and a note from her doctor. She use to buy it at Costco but she had to go through the pharmacy.

Re: Similac Alimentum? & Insurance coverage?
BRU has the ready to feed for $7.99. They also sell the RTF by the case for $47. King Kullen has it for $8.19 and Stop n Shop is $8.29.
We use RTF - I was using powder and my ped said no, use RTF its less air/gas for my DD and there IS a big difference, she does much better with RTF. ETA: our insurance does not cover the Alimentum - even w/ a note from the ped.

Our insurance did not cover it, and we had to use it with both kids. The cheapest place, by far, is BRU. I was told by a friend that they use it to get people into the store, so they'll buy other things as well, so they basically don't make any money on it. I never found it cheaper anywhere else.

Re: Similac Alimentum? & Insurance coverage?
My son was on it. I use to find it at my local King Kullen for $7.99 and stock up when they had it in stock. BRU sells it by the case but not any cheaper...it use to come to more than 7.99 a bottle when he was on it. Sign up for Similac coupons to help out. I only used RTF.
My dr gave me a note for insurance but I never got it covered. I tried to send it a few times to my insurance and they kept saying they never received it. Then I changed insurance and never tried again since I never had the time for it. Call your insurance and ask. I had to get a note stating the medical need and fax it to them.

Re: Similac Alimentum? & Insurance coverage?
we had it covered by ins. We had the dr call the ins company and write a letter stating that he had a milk protein allergy and w/o the formula he would not thrive. We ordered a months supply thru our pharmacy and they would give us 30 bottles of RTF formula each month with a co pay of 50$!!!! IT was awesome, we would have never been able to afford it otherwise. You need to get the preapproval letter sent to you by the ins company and then you take that to the pharmacy along with the prescription written from the Dr. Our dr always wrote the script for a months supply 30 bottles each no matter what so sometimes we even had extra.
