Vent Okay ladies I have decided that I have the worst job for a pregnant woman
I work in med mal insurance so I have many cases - and honestly I like my job b/c it is very interesting and I am constantly learning new things - but - it is NOT a good job for a pregnant woman.
Now I have a larger case load but it is varied so I have everything from cancers of all types, bad baby cases (which are the worst) to everything you can imagine.
They are always passing around legal and medical articles around the office that we are required to read - which generally is okay as they are usually interesting.
Now I have been getting a ton of articles all year to read - and for the past month they decide to pass out a ton of articles on bad baby/delivery issues - (VBAC, Shoulder dystocia, erbs etc) great just what I want to read about now of all times

I understand how that would freak u out. I do..that really does plant a seed in the back of your mind.
my last gyno lost his license to practice permanently and I am freaked out delivering now.....
hmmmmmmm bet u know him!

I am in the same boat as you! As a med mal paralegal for over 15 years, I have seen & read a lot! It just makes me question my doctor more & feel more prepared & informed in the long run. I don't fear the worst, so much, I just am always making sure all angles have been looked at!

I feel for you. Just try & not let it affect you if at all possible. I know that I can get myself crazy just by reading things on the internet, so I can imagine how it must make you nuts!!

I was exactly in the same boat as you last year. I am an attorney, and last year I worked in a plaintiff's med mal firm. All we did was med mal. I handled a bunch of pregnancy/delivery departure cases. I was heavily involved in a shoulder dystocia case - deposing the doctors, nurses, etc. Funny, that is my biggest fear now out of all pregnancy fears for delivery. However, I do feel that it makes me more aware and prepared for certain situations. I am more familiar with medical terms and procedures. Gladly, I work for myself now and I do mostly personal injury, not just med mal. You just have to have faith in your doctor, but make sure to keep your eyes and ears open to everything. There is nothing much you can do at this point. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of doctors and their decisions. Fortunately, med mal is a rarity and most doctors are highly competent and know what they are doing. You must trust your decision and go forward from there. Good luck.
By the way, do you work for MLM? Perhaps I can negotiate with you next time I have you as a carrier?

Fortunately, med mal is a rarity and most doctors are highly competent and know what they are doing. You must trust your decision and go forward from there. Good luck.
I totally agree! After being involved in this field for so long, I have realized that most of the cases are not due to the negligence or incompetence of the physicians or hospitals, but the unfortunate risks and anticipated complicatons that have to be expected.

I am a med mal paralegal too. In a plaintiff's firm where we have A LOT of baby cases. My boss told me that when I am not comfortable working on them, just to let her know.
In some regards, I just try to be educated and sometimes working in this field makes you be aware of some of the risks involved.
I don't question my doctor, I did A LOT of research before picking her and the hospital that I am going to deliver at. That being said, my doctor does NOT know what I do for a living, and I won't be telling her.

me too - I am an attorney, and when I was pregnant we were handling med mal cases. It's funny, I remember, one day the head partner came into my office, was about to drop a case off at my desk, but then hesitated for a second, said nevermind and walked right out. I later found out it was a case regarding an infant death at delivery, which he had assigned to me originally, but decided to give it to another associate when he walked into my office and remembered my huge belly.
