okay, so the majority of people in the dome are poor and black. If they were rich and white do you think more would be done right now? Do you think they would have not haulted the evacuation to TX? Or that more of a military presence would be in the dome right now?

I think that at times like this color is not an issue. we are talking about human lives being lost. If all our military was not in the middle east there would be more military presence!!! I HATE YOU KATRINA!!!!

Truthfully, I don't. I think they are honest to God doing everything that is possible right now to get those people out and into safe areas. There's no communication whatsoever down there so it's creating a havoc that is blind to race or social class.

Honestly, I don't think our country is ever adaquately prepared for these kinds of issues and rich white folks would have the same problems.

I dont think the color of skin really matters here- its the ignorance of the people there ruining it for themselves.
the rich either white or black would have prob listened and gotten out of there.
more military present- again I think its the issue of the looting and the morons shooting at them.
we have plenty of military here- I dont know what they are waiting for.

Well I dont think there is any difference at all based on race .. there is truly no way to get them out of there, and I do believe they are doing all they can
What I will say is that the RICH people (white, black or otherwise) most likely had better means of transportation (i.e., their own car) to at least TRY to evacuate.. and the money to konw that once they got somewhere, they could afford a hotel room or the like. So to me , that is the main difference.. not the nationality and/or race

I don't think more would have been done but certainly wealthier people had more options to leave - can afford air fare and hotels out of town, or other forms of travel to friends homes. I have an Aunt in New Orleans who said the district that was hit the worst - and is in the lowest sea-level wise - is the poorest district and many do not have cars. So they didn't have the full range of choices that middle-class or wealthy residents had.

This wouldn't be the crisis that it is if rich people were involved. You have to assume that rich people would have better access to communication, transportation and most importantly $$$.
I've heard that New Orleans is one of the top crime ridden cities in the country, so I'm not surprised by the recent outbreaks of looting, anarchy, etc.
But that comes from ignorance.
These people are probably mostly so sheltered, so unexposed to things beyond their little city.
It's really a d a m n shame though.

It WAS the Associated Press. Not all news is on TV. This was reported.
I know not all the news is on TV....well they will be getting some heat for that I'm sure.

I don't think you can base anything on this article. I've been pouring over hundreds of articles and pictures and I've found that the same pictures can have different captions depending on the site.

You do realize that a lot of these "ignorant" people had no means of leaving. It was not in every situation a matter of them just ignoring the evacuation notice.
I do agree that there should be a stronger military prescence. Unfortunately, a lot (not all) of the looting was caused by people simply trying to get food and water.

I think it is the attitude of "take care of me"... ignorance...there was an evacuation, meaning the city provided means to leave....they could not force people to leave but they provided the means.

IMO if they were rich.....black or white they wouldn't be in the Dome....
I know a family that actually has a lot of money and their condo is gone....
they got out and came here actually...
