I think it is the attitude of "take care of me"... ignorance...there was an evacuation, meaning the city provided means to leave....they could not force people to leave but they provided the means.
The city provided limited assistance to leave the city from what I have heard. I just don't agree that everyone that stayed there did so of their own accord. In all honesty it doesn't matter because it sounds like they were evacuated into hell.

Well, I bet the chances of being raped or shot are less in their homes. JMO, but if I'm going to die I would ratherit be at home and not at the Superdome.

okay, I guess maybe I worded it wrong. I think that it is possible to have a stronger military presence. I think if it were more of a mixed crowd in the dome, different actions would be taken. I know that rich people would have left. What I am saying is, if they could not have left and everyone was in the dome I think more would be done. I think it would happen if white women were in the dome getting raped by black men. Or if white and black babies were hungry, that more would be done. I think it would be less of a "them doing it to themselves" scenerio.
Have police killed any looters yet?

I didn't imply that it was anyone else doing it. My point is that a lot of the people that stayed home didn't do it by choice and that even those that went to the evacuation shelters have been living in inhumane conditions. Which is worse? I don't know. To have survived and be in what is left of my home and safe or to be in a building that is also destroyed with tens of thousands of angry, scared, confused and even violent people. No matter what the end result is horrible.

I haven't seen any reports of that yet (though with the chaos, that doesn't mean a lot).
But, there was a cop that was shot in the head and later died.

I don't think you can base anything on this article. I've been pouring over hundreds of articles and pictures and I've found that the same pictures can have different captions depending on the site.

I don't think the evacuation was halted because they were poor and black I think the evacuation was halted because people were shooting guns and the miltary helicopters and how can you ask these people to come outside and put them more in harms way!!!!!! The evacuations have started again. What is more disturbing is the people that went to the Convention center and were told that it was an evacuation/shelter site and there is no one there to help them. There is food and water locked in metal cages there and no one to open them and there has not been a SINGLE bus there to evacuate these people. That is very disturbing!

There were but it will according to the news take hundreds of bus loads to move the people. The evacuations were temporarily halted this afternoon because of the shoots.
As to the question, about snipers I guess (and this is just MY speculation) who would think that the residents of NO would fire upon our military that is trying to help them.

Exactly! They're sent in for relief efforts - not expecting to fight the people they're trying to help.
Besides, imagine the headlines with that?!?! "Armed Military Storms Devastated New Orleans to Kill Hurricane Victims".
The military shooting looters is not exactly a plausable response to this type of situation.

I can see not shooting food/clothes looters. But people shooting at helicoptors or in hospitals need to be killed. Rapes and fires and beatens?

wait! these people, turned victims, turned criminals, are DESPERATE!!! They have NOTHING!!! NOWHERE TO GO!!! NO FOOD FOR DAYS!! The physical damage CANNOT compare to the emotional and mental deterioration these people are experiencing!!! Does that mean they should be gunned down like animals?? IMO, No!. These people need help in every way, shape and form. Order needs to be brought back to the effected areas. Some type of civility needs to be reinstated. I just cannot imaging what these people are going thru!!!

I cant imagine what they are going through, and I understand the fact that many did not have the means to leave, but I am saddened with those who had children and didn't TRY to leave. Id have carried my children till I passed out to get them out of harms way, and had MORE people left , they would be better able to spread the man power to other things besides search and rescue....
Those who stayed because they had too are an exception and I believe that maybe only 50% of those that stayed actually HAD to...
The looting, killing, fires...there Is NO EXCUSE for....to shoot a cop who's trying to help stop violence SO he can go save lives is disgusting and those people deserve NOTHING, no pity....
The worst should bring out the best in people, and no food is one thing, no water etc....Thats A horrid situation...but Yet they would rather steal a TV and light fire to a store then find water to drink for themselves?? I would love to understand the mentatlity there but I just cannot.

I don't think this has anything to do with color...although you do see most of the people shown on tv are to be of color...but, I also see plenty of white folk too.
I think it completely had to do with these people are poor and couldn't get out.
If they were rich and white or black for that matter...they would never have been in New Orleans when it flooded...they would've gotten out!!!!
