OK...so now that my walls are fully gutted what wiring should we run behind the walls?

I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything before the sheetrock is up.

So far before sheetrock is up we are replacing windows
changing electrical wiring
installing hi-hats and ceiling fans
running cable and internet wires

should I have an alarm company over too if we plan to put in an alarm or would that not matter?

TIA

Anything that requires an electrical connection should be considered before sheetrocking. Switches? Outlets?

In new construction I have seen these tubes with space so that future wires can just be snaked through, they have a cap at the end next to the outlet.

eta: alarm system
telephone
tv
dish
computer
lights
component cables for Will, Xbox, PS3
DVR
lighting
water
gas
sewer

my DH thinks you can install 4 pair or 6 pair 18 gauge wire and run that through your wall (in the vicinity of the areas that would be alarmed, windows/doors etc), that would be all the alarm company would need when they do come, no need for them to come and install the actual alarm now.

We had an alarm company come while the walls were still open...

We also ran speaker wire so we could put speakers in the ceiling - BEST thing we ever did. We have speakers in our kitchen ceiling, dining room ceiling and living room ceiling - we use them ALL the time.

When running the cable wire - be sure you're running HDMI cables too...

I would put internet, cable and telephone jacks since you have it open. Also, speakers wiring. My mom has this on the first floor and I love that she can listen to music in one room or all 3 rooms. You can also have it wired for outside speakers (I would also do this for the backyard).

We had the alarm company come over while the walls were open, and then we had some sort of wires run so we have speakers in every room of the house and outside the home so music can be turned on in any room or outside.

In the apartment we are in now, there is internet throughout and stereo all over the living room. It is a really great feature. Wireless doesn't always work so great in some homes.

If you are running audio/video/speaker wire in the walls, make sure it's rated for in-wall use (CL2 rated) or else you can void your homeowners insurance.

I had speakers installed in the ceiling, but I didn't bother with ethernet wiring. I'm going all wireless. I have two wireless routers in the house now, so I have a very strong signal anywhere in the house, and on the entire property.

Except for the living room ceiling, I don't know if or where I want speakers, so I'll just do wireless for those as well.

You may want to run additional doorbell ringers. I have 3 in my house, but again, if I add more, I'll go wireless.
