OMG a parent just sent me a friend request on Facebook!
seriously, why would you put me in such an awkward position???....she's a parent of a student I had last year, and she was my class parent and we got along great, and maybe in another lifetime we would be friends.....but come on now!!!!!!

My co-worker had this happen too-
Only she made the mistake of adding the parent and then deleting her after thinking about it and now the parent is being all witchy to her.
I would just write a message thanking her for thinking of you but that it crosses the line of professionalism in your code of conduct or something like that

I've had students request me and I just tell them that I don't friend students as a rule and no one's argued me yet....

This happened to me once. It didn't even make sense since it was someone whose daughter I had nine years ago (even though the girl's little brother's only going to be in 10th grade this year.) I ignored the request and blocked the parent. No way, no how.

It's happened to me but to keep things smooth I talked to the parent and said thatI had no problem with her but being that I am FB friends with a lot of my colleagues I wouldn't want them to maybe feel uncomfortable. It worked and had no problems with her.

I definitely wouldn't 'friend' her. The excuses that the others had all sound good to me 
And don't feel bad about it either. That is totally awkward and weird.

I would just tell her that your school has recommended that you don't friend parents or kids and you don't want to get into "trouble"
