OMG- as if going to BRU as a non-parent isn't overwhelming enough!

so I have to say I try to avoid Babies R Us as much as possible

the gift I ordered online became unavailable- so I had to go to the store

I was walking around aimlessly trying to figure out what to buy, where it was, what it was etc

I was already freaking out -

then as I was paying

a little boy just walked over a HIT a little girl

she was screaming- the boys mother did NOTHING

I just had to walk out- but not before I told the cashier and the guy behind me that this is the best birth control EVER

I am still not over this experince

Please don't ever buy a BRU online exclusive gift.

If for some reason it has to go back...you have to pay for shipping, and the only refund possible is on original cc.

I live there......and will probably live there for another year or 2. Then I'll only have to go in there for gifts, like you.

BRU will either make you want a baby or not want a baby. In your case NOT want a baby.

Me too! I always am in there forever trying to get a gift. The last shower I went to - the person registered at Buy Buy Baby and it was a much nicer shopping experience.

Even as a parent it is the WORST store! I hate it. I try to avoid it whenever possible. Buy Buy Baby is soooo much better.

I hated BRU before I got pregnant, I hated it while I was pregnant and I hate it now that I have a child.

I have always found it to be SO OVERWHELMING..so crowded and confusing and just a hassle.

Besides the clothes they carry, I can so do without that store!!

Glad you got out alive!! Chat Icon

I actually like shopping there but the return policy is awful.

I hate it know with a child! Returning sux and the line is always terrible.

Right before I got pg I had such a panic attack in there about wanting kids/ not knowing if the time was right etc etc.

BBB is usually a little calmer.

I call BRU a necessary evil. Their customer service is awful. BBB is a much better shopping experience.

this is what I like to do.

As soon as I know the mama to be is registered at BRU I go there and purchase the diaper bag she is registered for. I'm in and out and do not stop at the self gift wrap item station.

Then I go to CVS or Target and buy a bunch of necessities (diapers, wipes, etc.) and fill the diaper bag to capacity. Wrap in clear wrap tie a ribbon around the top and I'm done.
Quick and painless

ETA: I've never really had an issue at BRU with this plan, but there was one time I had to climb over a bunch of items that were thrown all over the floor and almost slipped at the end on what you ask well lets just leave that blank

You could not pay me to go in there! I buy gifts online. I could care less about the extra shipping costs - its well worth it to avoid that place.
I had so many problems purchasing a toy box for my friend last year I vowed never to go there again.

I am making the vow also- they canceled my order that I placed on line- and the shower is sunday- and I have a business trip this week- so I couldn't risk another canceled order!

never again

I was shaking when I left

the boy hitting the girl was the icing on the cake

Re: OMG- as if going to BRU as a non-parent isn't overwhelming enough!

heheheheh.... I'm preggo and I feel the same way about that place! I can't stand it. it's the most overwhelming and disorienting shop... I always dredded having to go there for a shower gift. their online shopping is complete BS... frequently things are out of stock or it's malfunctioning....

So for me, it's BRU and bridal shops.... with all of that white poofy tulle.....

I'll never EVER forget what the woman helping me find a gown said to me (when I explained to her that I wanted something simple)...

'but don't you want to be a princess??!!'

my response was golden, if I do declare...

'but I'm NOT one'

for the record, my major baby registry is with amazon Chat Icon

Re: OMG- as if going to BRU as a non-parent isn't overwhelming enough!

I hate Babies R Us so much too! I had a similar experience there (BRU in commack) shopping for my DH's cousin's girlfriend who I didn't even know... (I would insert eye roll icons, but just picture one after each sentence).

First of all, you can't find anything in there. It is so confusing, there seems to be no order to the layout. I wandered around for about an hour, then demanded someone who work there come WITH me to find stuff. After that, I could find things, but A- the highchair I wanted was not in stock (great, it says it IS on the registry), and B- I flat out refuse to pay $50 for a little 8"x8" piece of foam baby pillow. I let the girl know how outrageous it was and that they could keep the thing for that price. She actually agreed with me. ha.

After finally finding some other overpriced but more acceptable items, I pay and expect my items to be gift wrapped. Naturally, it's a gifty-register store, right? Nah! Instead, I get boxes thrown at me and pointed to the self gift wrap. Self gift wrap?? I struggled for nearly 20 minutes to wrap these d@mn things. When I realized they gave me a box that was too small (and wasn't very big at all), I went to the desk and asked for a larger one. The 4 able-bodied young 20's girls at the desk so kindly stopped their conversation and giggling to tell me there was no larger box. Instead of wrapping the cr@p for me, they just stood there and watched me struggle.

I must have looked insane, I was so angry and cursing by the time I left. I vowed to NEVER return to BRU.
