One BIG reason not to delay the MMR.
I know people are going to start getting nutty and bring up about how some people delay vaccines, yada, yada...even if children are vaccinated, they are still suseptible to diseases. Besides the fact, vaccines eventually wear off which is why they say that most ADULTS should get re-vaccinated at a certain point but we don't. Who's to say an adult didnt give it to the infant?
people jump to conclusions so quickly...the fact is we dont know who the child is or who gave it to her.

I dont think people are jumping to conclusions about who gave it to the baby (and who is walking around after being exposed and doesn't know it, but that is a whole nother story...) I think it is more of phew my child got atleast one of the vaccines and is hopefully not going to get measles (as long as immunity is built up) if exposed.

This may come off snotty and I don't mean it that way but how can anyone say don't jump to conclusions about this but it's okay to delay the vaccine based on no scientific evidence? That is a much bigger leap IMO.
I respect everyone's right to do what they feel is in the best interest of their family. However, every time an article comes out that suggests vaccines cause autism (usually written by Jenny Mccarthy, no less), people jump up and say "see, I am so glad I didn't get my kid vaccinated". In this case, people are saying "see, I am so glad I did get my kid vaccinated". How is is different? We all want validation that the choices we are making for our kids is the right one because deep down no one knows 100%. This is no different. It's just the other side of the coin.

ITA. I did not delay any vaccines for my children because things like this can happen.
For the record, I was not there this weekend.

I agree. This story just confirms why I will vaccinate MY child according to the schedule his doctor uses. I think there are lots of diseases and viruses coming into this country from all over and I wouldn't want to take a chance of him getting any of them - remember that story of the guy on the plane with TB?
This story also makes me feel better about my decision to wait until his first set of shots before taking him to a lot of places and makes me want to limit the amount of time I'll spend in enclosed places before he has all of his shots.

You didnt come off snotty at all.
To be honest, I dont trust much scientific evidence that is reported...they dont have such a great record IMO. I posted somehwere else that I Know 2 people personally, whose children were developing fine, got the MMR shot and things changed. That is all the "scientific" evidence I need.
I also posted on one of my posts...that I think it is unfair for people to immediately point fingers at those that choose to delay their child's vaccines.

Seriously...I was going to go to the Carters in the Source but went to Glen Cove RD....of course I had the vaccine but I would definitely worry about my contact with DS after that trip...he hasn't had it yet - but will.

Nah-I don't blame you, or anyone else. I just opt to protect my kid the only way I know how. I would vaccinate regardless of how many other people do and hope that I am not doing other kinds of damage.

Re: OMG-Measles Alert in Source MALL in Westbury!
I was listening to 1010 wins during lunch and they said:
1) The child got it in Israel and brought it back here. 8 month old baby.
2) I believe they said it was people whoe were at the store Thursday evening.

My reasons for delay only involve the autism link in small part.
Its the reports of permemant deafness, severe infection, gastro issues, Febrile seizures and allerigc reactions leading to mental impairment that makes me want to delay.
Those reactions are scientifically PROVEN to be a result of the MMR.
Like I said in the other posts, I think anyone who is going to have an opinion should do their research.

Here is alink to an article about it that I found on wcbs.com. I know other articles have been posted about the measle scare, but I do not think this one has been. http://wcbstv.com/local/measles.nassau.county.2.693642.html
