riiight? I just dont understand, how we as a culture have let this happen? Its funny bc when I was younger, like early 80s...I was NOT allowed to watch MTV and neither were a lot of my friends. But today, looking back, thats so mild compared to what they are exposed too. I remember being their age in middle school and everyone wanted me to kiss my "boyfriend" on the bus.......and THAT was a big deal. Now its not taboo for kids to have sex in class?????? I worry for our future.

like look at the Miley Cyrus video that was just leaked. She is 16 in a CLUB and grinding on a 40+ year old man!!!!!! Not OK, not OK at all!!!! And then it is ALL over for all of tween america to see.....and then they think, well if Miley can do it, it must be OK.
I used to be of the mindset (pre-kids) that "hey its america, its freedom of speech and expression, you dont like it change the channel", but those were different times. You CANT escape it even if you wanted too today!

ITA. It's really scary. I do worry for my DD. If you ask me, some in the entertainment industry have a LOT to answer for.

I try not to place too much emphasis on these people as role models, but they are out there to be seen and these celebrities need to start to realize they have a responsibility to these kids who look up to them to at least TRY to do the right thing. That video of Miley was just DISGUSTING

I wont forget the time I went and visited DHs cousins (8 and 12 at the time) and the 12 y/o was playing "I Kissed a Girl" and we were singing along when the 8 y/o said that boy sounds like a girl. The older one said that IS girl, I keep telling you that...and then the argument ensued...."Why would a GIRL kiss a GIRL????????" i dont think this is something a parent should HAVE to sit down and explain to an 8 year old

Kids are so over-sexualized.
I was at my 4th grader's spring concert, and all the kids had to dress in white top, black bottoms. You would not believe the amount of short-short skirts and revealing tops I saw on those girls! To the point that it was the rule and not the exception.
I was sitting next to my DS's friend's mom. As a little girl in a skin tight mini-skirt and fishnet stockings walked by on the way to the risers, she leaned over to me and said, "That girl has so much time to experiment with slutty later.... why now?" I agree. Who are the parents that think it's OK to dress your little girl like that???????

im disgusted..
when i was younger, i was not allowed to watch R movies until i was 17, or if it was something my father thought was ok to watch. Not allowed to watch wrestling either. My viewing was strictly limited as a kid.
and the parents reaction about not having oral sex in class.gee...how about not having it at all ..moron!

I would love to protect DS from all of this, but the problem is, that the other kids who arent know WAY too much, too soon and bring it into school, even if its just talking about it or through peer pressure.
Its on their phones, their ipods, all over the computer, TV, the newsstand at the supermarket, you just cant shield them from it all.
I agree that celebrities shouldnt be viewed as role models, that should be reserved for women like Sonya Sotomayor, Michelle Obama, Diane Sawyer...successful, classy women, not 16 year girls out in a club.
Whether celebrities want to admit it or not, or whether they want to be they ARE role models and you kids today DO look at them and with that comes a responsibility I think.
