OMG...I can't believe CIO is actually working!!
We're going on night 4 now. We did it for 2 nights a few months ago ...he screamed for about 90 minutes and fell asleep standing up. At the time he didn't know how to get down from a standing position which is why we stopped. We've been sleeping in the livingroom for now so he learns to be by himself.
Here's how it's gone for us so far...
Friday:
put down 11:00
fell asleep 11:35
woke up 1:55
fell asleep 3:00
woke up 4:05
fell asleep 4:15
woke up 9:25
Saturday:
put down 10:35
fell asleep 10:50
woke up 4:35
fell asleep 4:45
woke up 9:05
Sunday:
put down 9:50
fell asleep 10:00
woke up 11:25
fell asleep 11:30
woke up 1:40
fell asleep 1:50
woke up 6:15
Tonight:
put down 10:00
fell asleep 10:30
When he first goes in he SCREAMS for about a minute then turns on his aquarium and hangs out. When he wakes up throughout the night he might cry for a few seconds...that's it!!!! I'm attempting to get earlier and earlier each night because he normally goes to bed really late. I think it would be to much to start at 9:00 which is my goal. I'm in complete shock that it's working so well. Rylan normally screams even before he open his eyes so for him to be in there all night without us in the room is huge!!

Just stick with it!!! It is sooooooooo worth it!! I did it with Matty at about 5 or 6 months and he has been sleeping from 7pm to 6:30/7am ever since!!!!!!! It is BLISS!!!

good job....it's great when you realize they really can put themselves to sleep. Kaydyn still cries almost every night, but within a few mins she's out. It's wonderful.

I haven't really noticed a difference during the day yet. I think maybe I will when he actually starts sleeping through the night. At least I HOPE he starts sleeping through the night...lol.

I'm not sure about the less stress part yet...lol. I find myself staring at the monitor the whole time he's awake
And then I have my boyfriend next to me saying how i'm traumatizing him and how mean it is to have him in a dark room by himself. Meanwhile he has a nightlight...lol. Oh and the huffs and puffs too. Everytime he cries he wants to go in and get him

It has been a struggle. I wanted to do it so bad for so long and always chickened out. I just "knew" it wouldn't work with Rylan

I know EXACTLY how you feel, DH did the same thing to me. But TRUST me, you are not traumatizing him at all! You are teaching him to put himself too sleep and that is VERY important. It only gets easier each day/night and pretty soon your evenings will be stress free. Your BF will be thanking you then! Hang in there! You are doing a GREAT job!

Good for you!! I'm so glad you decided to give it another shot. I'm confident that you WILL see all-around improvements if you stick with it. You may even get him to bed as early as 8:00 if you really want to, but sleeping through the night is the first and much more important goal.
And don't listen to your boyfriend. He's wrong - you're not traumatizing Rylan AT ALL. You're teaching him something very important!! He NEEDS this!
