Once more, if you have a DSLR, what accessories would you recommend?
I'm trying to get a list together for either the nikon d5000 or the d90. I'm most likely going with the d5000. I was wondering what the BTDT people would suggest.
Thanks!

Top priority:
- UV filter to protect your lens. - A bag to protect your camera

I agree with Sophie. I also cold not live without my speedlight. The quality of pics is so much better with the right flash!

ITA with the above. Additional things to add to the list:
Extra re-chargable battery - good to have a spare charged and with you at all times.
Larger media card(s) - perferably a fast one - if one comes with the camera it's usually minimal power and storage size.
Small lens-cleaning cloth to carry with you
Other things I use regularly:
I replaced my standard strap with a Black Rapid strap - soooo much more comfortable when walking around.
Photoshop Elements and Adobe Lightroom for processing
External back up - a must for storing digital files safely. Lightroom will download to your hard drive and simultaneously to an external drive, giving you multiple copies for safety.
If the budget permits:
Skip the Kit lens that usually comes with the camera and get a better lens - good glass makes a difference!
Beyond that it depends on what you plan to use the camera for - do you need/want a tripod or monopod? External flash, additional lenses, etc.

I'm a Canon girl myself, but I have to say invest a good lens. I recommend a 50mm because it's versatile and you get the "artsy" feel. Extra batteries are a plus too. Camera bag, I love Jill-e, epiphanie, and Kelly Moore because they look like purses. HTH!!

Those bags are really nice - I have a Crumpler. Pretty happy with it b/c it's like a messenger bag.
The nifty fifty is on the list of things to get.
I would also suggest taking a class at Adorama or have someone take you out to teach you the ins and outs of it.
I have a Canon but did a few Discovery Days at Adorama. This way you are one on one with someone and they go through the entire OS in a few hours. It was worthwhile.
