Please recommend a DSLR camera for me.
I'll be having my first child in march and would like to buy a better camera to take some good pictures. I know there are so many out there but I thought maybe you guys could recommend a few. I went from using disposables to a Canon Powershot SD450...which is broken after having it only a year. So as you can see i'm far from a professional picture taker so it doesn't need to be the absolute best.
I see so many post about the Nikons and saw the D40 might be an option for me. The D80 is more than I want to spend. How about some others? I don't know anything about cameras so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I looked at the D80, D40 and D40x.
The D80 was too much of a camera for me (size and prize).
I decided on the D40x mostly because of the resolution. Just in case in need it later. Since this is an expensive camera, I wanted something I could use.

So it sounds like the D40 would be pretty good. I love to get the D40X but it is way to much money...especially for someone who can hardly take a picture...lol.

I would get the D40 in a second. I have the D50 but my mom has this one and it has sooo many features that I want. Especially the continuous shoot feature. I see me borrowing her camera a lot in the future.

I have the SONY DSC-N2 Cyber-shot 10.1 mega pixela and LOVE IT!! It is so small and so light to carry around. I've had it since March so its probably obsolete by now.

The Nikon D50 has the continuous shoot feature too. YOu need to put it on the "running person" icon. 
Yes, I have the D50, but they don't make it anymore, so your best bet is the D40.
