One week of daycare and DS is sick already (LONG)

And he only goes 3days/wk MWF. DS is 13 months old.

DS started daycare last Monday. Everything was going really well except for his naps which has been an issue for a few months now. DS has been with my mom since I went back to work when he was 8 weeks old.

Anyway so I pick him up from daycare on friday and he had a little bit of a runny nose. I didn't mention it the one girl that was left in the room. Other than the runny nose he seemed to be fine. Just tired because he only took a 30 min nap all day.

So DS falls asleep in the car on the way home. so when I get home, I just put him in his crib so he could nap. he did not feel warm at that point so I am pretty sure he did not have a temperature at that point. When he woke from his nap 2 hrs later he felt warm to me. I took his temp and he was at 100.6 I gave him Tylenol and he drank a sippy sup of milk and he went back to sleep. He pretty much STTN that night (which is NOT normal for him). He woke up once for his binky and went right back to sleep.

The next morning he wakes up acting normal. he plays in bed with DH like he does every Saturday morning. I check his temp and it is 99. Then as I am playing with him I notice that his 1st tooth is starting to come in. (I posted about it yesterday - he is 13 months old and still has no teeth) SO I assumed that the temp the night before was just due to the teething. DS did not have a temp all day yesterday but he still had a runny nose. I made a bad judgement call and took DS to Chuck E Cheese to meet up with my sister and her two kids. DS and I stayed at the table most of the time. I talked to my sister while her 2 kids played the games (they are 8 & 12yrs old) We were only there for about 1.5 hrs.

We get home and he takes another nap. He wakes and eats his dinner no problem. The he is playing with DH and he even takes his 1st steps last night!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon He was acting completely normal and I really thought he was OK. He had no temp just the runny nose still. He went to bed like normal and everything and woke 2x during the night. the 2nd time was at 4 am and he felt warm to me again. I check his temp and it was 100. I give him mortrin this time and he goes back to sleep.

When he woke this morning around 9 am he was burning up and his face was flushed. I took his temp again and it was 102. I immediately call the PED and they tell me to come in for 11 am. We get there and his ear are clear and his temp is still 102. While the Dr is checking his ears and throat he says DS's breath smells and he could tell that something is going on in there. So he orders a strep test. The quick test came back negative so they are going to grow it for 48 hours and see what that will come back with. and they sent us home. I gave him more motrin when we got home and we played for a little bit while DH made breakfast. French Toast and eggs, DS's favorite. He ate all his food. afterwards he was playing again and started walking all over our apt! Up until now he is acting normal (just extra cuddly) and just a few minutes ago he was walking around the living room....BUT he still has a 102 temp. I just gave him another dose of motrin.

If you are still reading this.... I really need some hugs Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I just feel like the worse mommy in the world for taking him to Chuck E Cheese yesterday. I feel like maybe taking him there made it worse. I feel like I should have known better. I just REALLY thought the temp from the night before was just from the teething. I think I just got excited that his teeth are finally coming in. This is only the 2nd time DS has been sick. He had a cold that turned into a double ear infection when he was 10 months old.

I just want this temperature to go away and for my baby to feel better Chat Icon

Thanks Kate.....

Up until the last hour his runny nose was just clear mucus but now it has turned green..... But the temperature is gone and he is playing and walking around. I just feel so bad because I know it is hard for him to breatheChat Icon

please don't feel bad! as i was reading your post i was thinking that i would have done exactly the same things you did... i would have thought it was from teething, woudl have gone out, etc.

I always think that if DS is ACTING ok and EATING ok, he is most likeluy not that sick, even if he has a fever. My DS happens to run very high fevers, so I am kind of getting used to it now..... it's when he's really acting sick that i worry.

aww.. don't feel bad. My ped said that how they act is more of a sign of how they are doing than the fever itself. The fever is their bodies way of fighting off sickness.
