One year old Tantrums!!!!
John started with Tantrums lately. It's quite possible that it's because of his teeth coming in, But....It seems to be out of frustration. BUt at what..I don't know.. it's totally random. Its not when we are taking anything away are not allowing to do something. those I can see. It out of the blue..he will drop to the ground and cry laying on the floor. If I pick him up...his arms go straight up like he doesn't want me to pick him up.. he sometimes points..so I go where he's pointing..then he points the other way.
I tried ignoring him last night and he just continued to cry on the floor. Finally we gave him his bottle and he was fine. he usualy just asks for his baba.. so why wouldn't he just ask for it if that's what he wanted..kwim?

Re: One year old Tantrums!!!!
Perhaps I'm evil, or just a classic second time mom, but when Collin does this I just have to laugh.
He's usually a really happy kid but when he doesn't get his way, he'll throw his body on the ground in a little fit
It's just a frustrating age - they are at that stage where they understand more than they can do, KWIM? Esp. communication wise.
I just let him calm down and use it as a teaching moment.

Re: One year old Tantrums!!!!
i think a lot of it is frustration that they cant reach things or cant do things they want to do. sometimes DS gets like that, i just walk away and in a few minutes he's fine.

Ian just started doing that too. its been mild tho. twice he sprawled out on the ground with his face down crying. i hoped it was just teething related.

Re: One year old Tantrums!!!!
TOTALLY Normal. Mason started them around 14 -15 months old. Could be anything.... a little overtired, wants to communicate to you, but doesn't know how, teething, etc.
For some reason Mason does this when we get in the house after he was at daycare. I get to daycare and the teachers say he had a great day. He's all smiles. Put him in the car and he gets a drop moody, but I play his music and we search for Xmas lights.
Pull into the garage, put him down in the kitchen floor to let him walk and take his jacket off and right then and there he throws himself on the floor... whines, etc. Arms up and all. Not every time, but a lot of the days. I let him go through this and when he calms down I point to his toy box so he goes in to play and no tantrums.
THey're sporadic, but yes... welcome to toddler-hood

I do... his arms are all over so I stay out of arms way till he calms down. Doesn't last too long. Just wait till he calms a bit then distact him. I let him play for a bit while I get situated (you know the drill... change from work clothes, do a quick check on the house to make sure it's clean, put together Mason's food), etc. Then I call him in for dinner.
His new thing is not wanting to brush his teeth. Ugh! Other than that he's an angel in school LOL!

Re: One year old Tantrums!!!!
Normal normal normal! I was lucky, DS didn't start tantrums till about 18 months but they were still hard!
Ignore when you can, and the biggest biggest thing that helps with us is giving him a choice. I know it sounds dumb but it helps. Sometimes Luca doesn't want to take off his jacket, why am I going to fight him over it? I let him play with his jacket on and inevitably he'll ask me 10 minutes later to take it off
My philosophy is, if it's not hurting him or someone else, he can pretty much do what he wants And you've seen him, he's a pretty good kid most of the time
ETA: Also - and I hope this doesn't sound condescending because I don't mean it to be! - they understand a LOT more than we give them credit for. Now is the perfect time to start talking to him like he is 2 or 3 years old. He will totally get most of it, even if you think he doesn't.

That sounds like a little bit of separation anxiety too - Luca hates when I put him down even now! I have no advice there because I just pick him back up

Re: One year old Tantrums!!!!
Oh geez. I don't think I know what to do, except ignore him and calmly tell him that the behavior is not good and there is a nice way to get what he wants. I think he is probably frustrated because he knows what he wants and he cannot express himself. Maybe teaching him a few signs could help?

Re: One year old Tantrums!!!!
DS has been having tantrums since about 11 months old and he 13.5 months now. He has them every single day (numerous times) so I know it's not teething. It's definitely boredom and frustration from not getting what he wants. We just ignore him for the most part and they usually don't last for more than 2 minutes. I really hope it ends soon

Re: One year old Tantrums!!!!
yeah, we got some of that too.... it thin k part of it was separation anxiety.... its like a light switch turned on one day. its been a couple/few months but its getting better now.
