OK I came in anyway, but I do alot of driving OOT & I can definitely tell when I am back in NY. We are very aggressive and possessive of the space in front, behind & all around us. I feel bad for OOT drivers when they are here.

Actually, I find myself almost getting killed more often when I'm in Paris...they drive like maniacs over there!

I don't like the drivers here in Ga. inconsiderate morons. IMPO. I actually like NY drivers better.

I agree that LI drivers are aggressive, but since I've moved to Chicago I think their drivers are the absolute worst I have EVER seen. There is always traffic too and their highways are awful. The major highway we live near has an entrance in the middle of the highway (entering into the left lane) with a very little merge lane and it's right after a curve in the highway. Sooooo unsafe. I feel like I'm taking my life into my hands everytime I enter the highway.

The midwest has the nicest drivers. I came back to LI last month and almost got into 4 accidents.
I forgot to switch over to NY driving. People will just stop short in front of you, turn without a blinker. You have to be more aggressive to survive driving in LI.

Grew up on LI, lived in Ca for a little while, then settled in Jersey.

Jersey drivers are some of the worst...

ETA: I totally agree with you. I try to let people in whenever they have their signal on, but some drivers are such a*holes.

I agree that NYC/LI has very agressive drivers, but I think it stems from that fact that it is so overcrowded here. If you are on a busy highway and want to change lanes, you have to act fast or your window of opportnity will close.

The thing I hate the most is the motorcycle drivers who drive in between the cars in stopped traffiic!!

I live in Chicago and they are pretty bad here too. I think the worst drivers are in DC, they are not aggressive but just bad.

I thought NY had pretty aggressive drivers, but then I moved to Boston. It is BAD here.

It does not help that most Bostonians seem to think that lanes are optional, there are at least 10 Washington Streets in any given town, and they don't feel a roadway is complete without a rotary....now I miss NY drivers

OH, RACHEL - that's it, you're not even American anymore! You're totally British!!!! "big American cars" HARUMPH!! You probably have issues with the size of my fridge, too!!

My experience with British drivers has not been great (my MIL's a maniac!!), but I don't drive here because left turns give me a heart attack and I'm not sure I could handle pulling over every time someone needed to pass me on a road where cars are parked on both sides!!

I generally don't have a problem on LI, but people were doing all sorts of illegal stuff in the HOV lane this weekend - crossing double lines and darting in or out (and subsequently crossing three lanes of traffic HORIZONTALLY!) when they werent' supposed to. I also find that when you change lanes, the person behind you doens't ever want to ease up on the gas even a smidge so that you can get in before they run you over.

BUt my biggest LI driving pet peeve ever is people who get into the Exit Only lane and ride it for a half mile before cutting back into traffic just so they can pass 10 cars! Makes me absolutely livid!!!! c

I live in Cali and just got back from a very hairy ride.I was so flustered by a dude at fed-ex I literally ended up at Disneyland i cut off a few cars in the proocess..

I will take Cali ANY DAY over driving in NY. This past August I was almost hit 3 times by people blowling stop signs out right, NO ONE pulls over for emergency vehicles, and I don't understand honking your horn for everything. I never hear a horn where I live unless there is a dangerous situation or you are about to hit someone. I agree- I can't drive there comfortably anymore.
