Open bar at Christening party

Do most people have open bar at the Christening party? I've been to two this year and both did, but DH and I are closing on our new house in two weeks and just can't afford the additional cost! I dont want people to think we are cheap though!

Can you limit it to beer and wine only?

I did a tab the first time, and am doing it again this time. It's not worth it to pay for full bar IMO.

Re: Open bar at Christening party

My package included beer and wine, I ran a tab at the bar for anything else ordered. I had an open bar, but I didn't pay the open bar package price.

We are doing beer, wine and soda. We are going to run a tab BUT not publicize it.

Re: Open bar at Christening party

We had an open bar/tab but put a cap on it of $500 thank goodness our bar tab was under this amt. I was afraid to add beer and wine package (and not everyone is going to drink) it would be a waste. We had some people have real drinks and some had wine/beer and then some had soda...it worked out cheaper for us this way.

Re: Open bar at Christening party

WE ran a tab. We were told by the family member who works at the restaurant that it is usually cheaper to do it that way and it was.

I don't think most people expect to be pounding drinks at a Christening. Chat Icon

ETA: running a tab for us was cheaper even then if we added a beer/wine package.

Re: Open bar at Christening party

I've been to those that have open bar and those that don't. Frankly I think it's more than fine to go without an open bar. I didn't think twice when there wasn't. We had a party at my father's house for ds' baptism, and we just had wine and beer.

Unless your guests are huge drinkers, doing it this way would most likely be a lot cheaper.

We are having ours at 1pm in a restaurant and wont be having alcohol, just soda. I hope no one will be dissapointed but I dont think its necessary to have it.

Re: Open bar at Christening party

We had an open bar but only had to pay for what was consumed -- and it was very little to be honest. It was definitely cheaper than having beer & wine.

HTH!

Re: Open bar at Christening party

We are doing bottles of wine on the tables and pitchers of soda. It's in a restaurant and there is a bar in the next room over should anyone want another type of drink.
