Re: Open bar at Christening party

We had almost 80 people and had an open bar. I didnt want to end up spending more if we ran a tab because each drink was $8 if I ran a tab.

Re: Open bar at Christening party

I think if you are going to offer alcohol then it should be paid for, otherwise maybe there are other ways to cut back without asking guests to pay. I would love to have more people for DD"s parties but we cut back the guest list to what we could afford which meant cutting out a lot of friends and doing only immediate family.

Etd to add there is nothing wrong if you want alcohol with offering the minimum- beer and wine or just wine and soda. It does NOT have to be a full bar.

Re: Open bar at Christening party

I couldn't throw a party without an open bar. My family would be like Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . HOWEVER, I am terrible at remembering the needs of dry guests and those who don't drink (when throwing a party myself--not at a restaurant.) In my family, there is no party that is dry. Ever. DH's side is mostly in AA. There is definite Chat Icon that goes into planning each party.

ETA: I think beer and wine should be fine.

Re: Open bar at Christening party

to be honest I am actually surprised at how many people said it was necessary to provide the drinks. My DH and I have been debating this very same thing and everyone we ask (IRL) all said it was not necessary to have open bar or even beer and wine (paid for - there is a bar there that they could get their own drinks). Now I'm really confused!!! I orginally thought we should do the beer and wine option but the more people we talked to told us not to waste the money. We settled on buying a few bottles of wine and putting them on the table.

Re: Open bar at Christening party

Thank you for all your suggestions! I know DH and I don't like dry parties either but when you are putting all your hard earned money into closing a house and daycare its hard to justify! Chat Icon

My mom said she would help with the cost and I think we will either do beer and wine or run a tab. The place we are looking at said they will do whatever ends up cheaper!

We did beer and wine but ran a tab for anyone that wanted anything more. It was Sunday and early so it was not bad at all. We had 100 ppl.

Re: Open bar at Christening party

We have never had any type of party without providing alcohol of some sort. Beer and wine for any sit down type and champagne, mimosos, bloody Mary's for brunch. Full open bar isn't neccessary, but I do believe a dry party is kind of eh.

We are doing beer, wine and soda. We are going to run a tab BUT not publicize it.

We are doing this too!! To be honest, very rarely have I attended any gathering with an open bar (weddings excluded). DH and I (very briefly) had the same issue as we are the types that are always trying to accomodate everybody. The truth is, times are tough for a lot of people and you gotta do what you gotta do!!

Do not worry!! Your party will be fine as is!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Open bar at Christening party

We ran a tab, we wanted to offer it to our guests if they wanted it but didn't feel it would be cost effective to go all out since a Christening is not the kind of event that people get hammered and we had a 3pm luncheon, not the time of name people drink a lot.

I think the tab was around $150?
