Opinions about Dental Insurance for my 15 month old

My job just had open enrollment and I have been very indecisive about putting DD on at her age. It is 600 more a year for her to be added. I submitted the info today to enroll but still don't feel confident in my decision. Part of me feels nervous to not have her on since she has 12 teeth, then another part of me feels like what could actually happen at this age that would justify covering her at 600 a year at this point. I need to hear opinions on this because I am considering calling tomorrow morning to withdraw the paperwork.

check your medical insurance first. We do not have dental at all through DH's company BUT yearly dental visits, xrays, floride treatments and cleanings are covered for DS through our medical insurance until he reaches 11 years old...

eta: a 'normal' visit - cleaning, xrays, floride should not be more than $300 (and I think that is a high estimate)

What does it cover? I wouldn't sign her up.. You could pay a heck of alot less in just taking her and paying out of pocket for the cleaning and what not.Chat Icon

I agree. Chat Icon DS is covered under my vision and dental (I already paid for family plan to cover DH), and he has all of his teeth, but I still don't plan on taking him this year.

Def check your medical insurance... I know my DS medical covers dental for up to 11 years of age as well. I'll be taking him once he turns one... as per my Ped states.

what about your medical benefits package? What does it say about dependent child preventitive dental care. I would look at that first before you decide to sign up for a $600/year plan. I doubt your DC will need $600/yr in dental services starting now.

My ped said that my DD should not have to go to the dentist until she is 3.
