Oral thrush

Did anyone's DC ever have this or does anyone know anything about it?

DS just got back from the doctor and this is what he has. My poor baby I knew something wasn't right with him. He has been off the last two days. Not drinking and eating right.

Re: Oral thrush

This is a side effect of the radiation I have rec'd. It's an infection in the mouth. It usually makes the tongue white and may have dc producing a but more mucas.
Whenever I have had it, I have been given meds.

Re: Oral thrush

When I took DD to the ped. for a well visit, she told me that she had the beginnings of it. I had no idea she had it, but it also led to a rash which I thought was a stubborn diaper rash. She had to be put on meds.

Someone told me that it is painful for them.

Re: Oral thrush

My DD had it when she was a newborn. I did hear it's painful and sometimes they refuse to take the bottle or breast as a result. My DD never had a problem with that though. They originally gave her something she had to take orally and the directions said to retain it in the mouth and swish it around, except she was a month old so that wasn't happening (obviously!) so they switched her to something she could swallow. I was told no binkies for her but luckily she was not attached to one.

Re: Oral thrush

DS had it a lot when he was born. I believe he was give Nystatin (something like that) and it usually cleared up quickly.
