OTC Allergy Meds?
I need relief now. My whole head feels congested. I know I'm not sick. I don't feel sick, just congested in every way possible. My head is stuffy, my nose is stuffy, my eyes are tearing- this is absolute misery. The thing that is bothering me most is my nose. I can't breathe and I can tell it's my sinuses. Please tell me there is SOMETHING, ANYTHING that I can go downstairs on my break and pick up at Duane Reade or Rite Aid. I'm desperate and I've never really HAD allergies (at least not badly enough that I needed medication) before this year so I'm LOST. TIA!

Re: OTC Allergy Meds?
I had this about a month and a half ago - could NOT breathe for nothing. I was miserable also.
I ran to Duane Reade and grabbed Allegra - within 15 minutes of taking it I was able to breathe.
It was $$ though - $22 for 5 pills
ETA: I started out the same way as you - unable to breathe with pressure on my sinuses.
Turned into THE worst sinus infection and head cold I have ever experienced in my life. It took over a month for it all to go away.
So if none of the OTC work go to your Dr. I waited to long and was miserable.

Yeah, I'm really prone to them as well. But I do have a doctor's apptmt. coming up. Just not yet and I just need something now. I don't care what the cost is as long as I get some relief here! I'm actually ready to break down into tears. I feel like everything is wrong with me today! UGH! Thank you though! I'm stocking up and making a cocktail of drugs for myself this afternoon. Well maybe not a cocktail, but I'm getting more than one type so I can make sure something works!
ETA: Thank you all! I'm just sorry you all have been feeling as crappy as me! I wouldn't wish this on anyone!

Re: OTC Allergy Meds?
I like Allegra. Since you're syuffed up, you'll need the "D" version of whatever you choose
Note that the decongestant versions are often behind the counter at the pharmacy

Re: OTC Allergy Meds?
I use Allegra. Another thing that I find helpful is the Neilmed Sinus Rinse. You buy the bottle and it comes with a few saline packets. Basically, you boil water, let it cool, then add the water to the Neilmed with a saline packet and shake it well. You pump the water into one nostril and it comes out the other (while standing over a sink). It sounds gross but it works. Amazon sells the saline packets if you try it and really like it.

Thanks for posting! I was thinking about posting the same thing but I just thought my symptoms would just go away on their own. But I've been stuffed up for a few days now and I know that I'm not "sick". Must be allergies, but I've never had them before
I guess Zyrtec D or Claritan D are the way to go. I wonder if one is better than the other.

Re: OTC Allergy Meds?
Thank you all SO much!!! When I went they only had Claritin D in the 24 hour variety. Everything else was 12 hours. I hate taking pills (I have a hard time swallowing. Go on, laugh! ) so the fewer pills he better for me. I just took my first pill now so hopefully it'll be kicking in soon! Thanks again!

I might get this as well. I was so desperate I took my Mucinex nasal spray last night just so I could sleep but I know that's a short term remedy. I'm not one to take pills normally so for me to break down and go for the meds is a BIG thing. I'd definitely like to have this as a back up for when my nose is being yucky. lol!

Re: OTC Allergy Meds?
I feel your pain! I have used everything and the only thing that has worked for me the last few years is CVS Brand Non-Drowsy 12 Hour Cold Relief. It is also for Nasal & sinus congestion from allergies. But you have to get the one behind the pharmacy counter that has pseudoephedrine. Feel better!

Re: OTC Allergy Meds?
I just went to the doctor for this.
He told me to get Allegra w/o the "D" Visine Allergy drops (he gave me a Rx but said I could get this too) Flonase (same as above)
I have a dry cough so he also told me to get cough drops w/lemon, honey and echanchia (sp?)
And a suggestion, he said I have allergies but probably a slight virus too but nothing severe enough to give me antibiotics.
He told me to gargle w/a mixture of water and peroxide.
HTH and Feel Better
