Our DISGUSTING furniture delivery experience this weekend-- EXTREMELY long & gross
We had DD's big-girl furniture delivered on Saturday. Ordered from JCPenney....delivered by a separate shipping company. We paid to have it delivered to our house AND assembled even though we could have gone to pick it up at the store b/c we've run into problem before if the furniture is damaged, then you have to drag it back to the store, etc.
They show up on time, which was nice....2 guys. One of them says to DH "you're going to put this together, right? We're just dropping off?"...while he's got a drill in his hand DH says "Um, no, we paid for it to be assembled b/c we want to make sure there's no damage" DH thinks they're just trying to get a bigger tip by "doing us a favor" even though we paid for it.
Whatever. They carry something in, down to DD's room. 2 minutes later, 1 guy is calling for DH (I was cleaning elsewhere but could hear it). Tells DH he cut his finger and needs a bandage. DD's room is right next to the bathroom, so he's already standing in our bathroom, which is rude/weird DH gets him a Bandaid, the guy complains that it's too big, a smaller one would be fine We have them in a glass jar, so DH leaves the jar on the counter in the bathroom.
Fast forward 15 minutes, I hear the Bandaid jar clanging. I think "hmm...guess he's helping himself to another bandage"....again, rude, but weird. DH goes to check on the guy. He's STILL in there, hasn't left our bathroom, tending to his wound. The other guy has been doing all the work with the furniture while this guy is in our bathroom.
They're here an hour total. They say they're done and want DH to sign the paperwork. DH says, AGAIN , well, we want to check over the furniture first, make sure there's no damage. The guys are in a MAJOR rush, you can tell...too bad, that's what we paid for, it's common for people to check it over. DH & I go into the room and DH starts looking at the dresser. I'm standing in the empty bedframe (no mattress on yet), looking at the tall dresser....for some reason, I glance down at the hardwood floor. I see spots ALL over it....I look closer....THERE IS BLOOD SPLATTERED EVERYWHERE ON THE FLOOR I kid you not, it looks like someone took a massive paintbrush and splattered blood droplets all over the entire floor Thank goodness we had taken EVERYTHING out of her room, rugs, other furniture, etc. Seriously looks like a crime scene.
So I say (kind of gasping b/c it took me by surprise and it was NASTY)..."Um, is that BLOOD all over the floor?" The bleeder is in the room, literally foaming at the mouth to get us to hurry up (we had been in there 1 minute probably at this point ) to sign off on the paperwork. DH comes over and even he is stunned/disgusted. The bleeder comes over, looks on the floor (can clearly see it from standing, don't even have to squat down) and says "Oh, sorry"....DH and I are staring at each other like "Is this really happening???" and the guy leaves to go out to the truck I'm assuming-- the other guy was outside....they hadn't yet gotten their tip OR had their paperwork signed off on, so he wasn't leaving. When the bleeder comes back in, I'm saying "you should probably seek medical help if you're bleeding that much" and he's blowing it off like "nah, it's ok, it's just a little cut!"
DH and I are literally gagging....to say there was blood ALL OVER her floor would be an understatement. Droplets of blood covered her ENTIRE floor...some on her wall and on the closet door too. The guy comes back in as DH is getting the harsh antibacterial spray (I only use all-natural stuff in the house but thankfully had Lysol Antibacterial Kitchen cleaner...not for use on hardwood but I was desparate) and is on his hands/knees starting to scrub it it. The guy looks at DH on the floor (again, waiting for his paperwork/tip), bends down for literally 15 seconds and "scrubs" one inch of the floor.
We am disgusted/pizzed beyond disgusted at this point, so he signs the papers (honestly, I didn't want him leaving any more DNA at my house at this point, I wanted him gone ) and they leave. DH then spends ALMOST 2 HOURS scrubbing dried blood droplets off of the floor in DD's beautiful room. I was nearly dry-heaving it was that nasty. Then we look in the bathroom, where the guy spent a good 15 minutes, and there's blood on the sink, faucet, etc DH had just scrubbed the bathroom clean that morning....so he then totally disinfected that AGAIN
I mean, I understand accidents happen, the guy hurt his finger. But they were in such a damn hurry that the guy literally spewed blood ALL OVER the room instead of opting out of the work so he didn't cause a health hazard all over the room And then, he didn't even MENTION that there was blood anywhere...they literally were trying to leave before we noticed it....then offered one 1/2-azz "sorry" and he scrubbed for 15 seconds Cleans out our entire supply of Bandaids too, w/o even a "thanks for the bandages".
On top of that, the morons didn't ask how high we wanted the bed (the height is adjustable), so they put it all the way at the top (we didn't know there were options otherwise we would have told them where to put it)...DH had to take the entire bed apart and lower it.
I called JCP in disgust today to file a complaint. Would compensation be nice? Yes. But the main reason I called was DISGUST. I mean, that is absolutely disgusting. If it was MY blood I would be disgusted, blood is nasty, esp. in my daughter's beautiful room. But a random stranger's blood ALL OVER the room?? W/o so much as an apology/offer to help clean/acknowledgment of it?
JCP said they'd get back to me, the lady was trying to remain matter-of-fact on the phone but you could tell she was even disgusted.
Whew, this is long, sorry It just feels better to get it out

Honestly, I think it was really nice of you to give him a tip. Yeah, accidents happen, but the way he handled it was EXTREMELY unprofessional.

THAT IS HORRIBLE!!!
I am glad you called to complain. I would have done the same. And you're right, it has nothing to do with compensation...it's COMMON COURTESY!!!
UGH! I am so sorry for that experience!!

That's the thing....I understand accidents happen and we were more than helpful to him...giving him Bandaids and whatever else he needed. We thought he was fine, had no clue anything was wrong with the room until they were trying to bust out the door at super speed.
TOTALLY unprofessional and disgusting. We only gave them $20 to split, we just wanted them out (and honestly, the other guy WAS working and assembling the bed-- incorrectly, but that's besides the point-- so HE did deserve it, though I'm sure he was talked into the "cover up" while they tried to bolt out of there w/o us noticing".
The guy could have easily asked us for paper towels, spray, etc...we were being super nice to them.

That is just BEYOND!!!
And a MAJOR health hazard!!
I'm going to guess you didn't think to take any pics of this
I would write a letter to corporate, cc it to the entire chain of command at JC Penney and the sub contractor. If you have pics I'd print them out and attach them to the letter.
He didn't even offer to TRY to clean it up???
And if they are lifting and assembling furniture all day long shouldn't the truck be equipped with a first aid kit?
I'd keep on this. That's just unreal

OMG. I would have a panic attack. I sure hope your DH wore gloves. I personally would RETURN all of the furniture ASAP. There could be blood on it and things like Hepatitis can live for at least a week, etc.
Also make sure you use something with bleach to kill any viruses that could bein his blood, however, i would be careful with chemicals in your DDs room and def not on her furniture. Which is exactly why I would return it ALL and never have her sleep in it.
That is horrific! Sounds like real horror story. Please call JCP asap to rectify this.

This is the day for shocking posts!!!!! What a jerk. It sounds like he was badly injured, but give me a break! Once we had a furniture mover come down with some horrible stomach virus on the job, but he was very apologetic and stayed with the team to complete the job - even though he didn't do much... I felt very bad for him...

That is nasty. Someone elses blood really grosses me out - especially these days. Although the thought of him cleaning himself and then me not knowing it was there would probably gross me out more then at least if I knew I disinfected it. Ewwww.

- I used to work in the corporate office for a major appliance chain and have heard lots of complaints with deliveries gone bad...The very least they should do is give you a refund of your delivery fee for the inconvenience that was caused ...The part that really makes me is that he was just going to leave it that way....Just wrong !

We didn't think to take pics and I regret it I'm normally ALL ABOUT pics, but I was just so disgusted and wanted it off the floor, I wouldn't even move from where I was standing b/c I was freaking that it would be tracked through the house (thankfully it didn't appear to get on any of my hall rugs, etc somehow, I was on hands/knees, big belly and all, inspecting every inch!).
I am TOTALLY not letting this go. It definitely seemed like a shady operation. I mean, these guys were I'm sure hard workers, barely spoke much English (I don't think the one who did the work even spoke/understood English, and the bleeder spoke minimal English), but we were feet away in another room the whole time, they could have easily asked for cleaning supplies.
Nope, no offer to clean it up. They tried to scoot out before we noticed, definitely. Once DH was on hands/knees scrubbing and the guy was waiting for a signature did he say ONCE, half-azzed "oh, sorry" and bent down for literally like 15 seconds to scrub a tiny spot....he KNEW the floor was covered (and I'm totally not exaggerating the amount of blood that was on the floor at all).

You're right, I would have totally cleaned the entire room again IF he had cleaned it.
Now I'm really starting to get grossed out/freaked out-- we scrubbed it completely with the antibacterial cleaner and left it to air out for hours before putting her rug in or having us walk in there. But we have all walked barefoot in there since then...it's safe, right???

eeewwwwwwwwwww! Its totally understandable that accidents happen, what are you going to do. He couldve TOTALLY handled it more professionally, offered to clean it up, at least or his partner could have if he was too injured. Just trying to sneak out though, so unprofessional. I bet he would have gotten way more sympathy out of you had he not been so sneaky about it. Im sorry!

Absolutely nothing got on the furniture b/c the other guy did all the work. The 2 dressers were already assembled. All they had to put together was the bed, and the 1 guy (non-bleeder) did it by himself....the furniture is white, so we'd definitely notice blood. I inspected every inch of the furniture, the floor, the walls, everything.
There was literally nothing else in the room, it was an empty room when they delivered...no clothes, no rugs, no bedding, mattress, etc...thankfully.

O.M.F.G!! That is the most disgusting thing I have ever read. Talk about professionalism at its highest. I am sorry but I would not let JCP off the hook until they offer some form of compensation. Pics or no pics one cannot make a story like that up.
I would even go as far as contacting the subcontracting company and filing a complaint. I don't need to add any more disgusting images in anyone's mind, but you have no idea what germs/diseases that man is walking around with. And now it has been sprawled out all over your floor and bathroom? Oh that is just nasty!!
I am sorry you had to go through that. IMO I will never order white glove service from JCP again after that!
