OUR NEW PHONE NUMBER RANT

So we move into the house and lived here in July and got a new phone number from optimum. A week or 2 after having the number we are getting phone calls for a Nicole R. and a Joseph R.

We got doctors offices, credit card companies, best buy geek squad to pick up a computer I called them back and told them that if these people get their computer to stop using our phone number!, some weird people, a priest telling them to pick up their free thanksgiving turkey (I called the priest back to tell him this is not the correct number and to give the turkey to someone else if they dont claim it) Some other lady was like Nicole please call me we need to talk

I MEAN PEOPLE MY MACHINE SAYS

Hi you have reached the XXXXX's we cannot not come to the phone right now...our last name is not even CLOSE to these people!

Ok so this is ongoing since July....it slowed downed but then

this past friday some guy called and was like

Niiiiiiccccccooooolle in a creepy voice I was like
Nooooooooo...he thought I was joking then was like o sorry hunnie ECK! creepshow

THen today I get a messsage from Commerce Bank in NJ that he wanted to update Nicole on her fraud claim?!?!? SO I called the guy back and was like this isnt her number and I told him all the calls I was getting. He was like were they the previous owners of your house? I said no and we have had this number since JULY! I though maybe an area code was off until the bank guy was like Do you live at XXX Street in XXXX I was like no but I am in that town...(which I cannot believe he blurted out! O and by the way this woman filed the claim on Jan 12!!!!! Y ARE YOU USING MY PHONE NUMBER!!! So now I know where she lives and it is superclose to my hous! F'ing weird! I googled her a$$ and now I have her phone number. DH says not to call...I am not going to not worth it...but now when someone calls I will just tell them no I am sorry this is not there number but for some reason people call here for them I looked up their phone number and it is this and if u talk to them tell to stop giving out our number and we will stop giviong out theirs!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW ANNOYING THIS IS!

I wanna call cablevision and see who did indeed have this number if anyone did at all or are they using us as a fake phone number

F'ING IDIOTS!

Why don't you just have the number changed to something else? Hopefully they wouldn't charge if you let loose with the same information for them!

Sorry you're having this problem, that totally *****! They probably won't update their phone numbers with all these people.

I would have picked up the computer at best buy!!! LOL...I don't know if there is anything you can do. I know my dentist called my old number and the lady got mad and said that she gets calls for me all the time.

I think you'll have an easier time changing it yourself than waiting for them to.

I had creditors calling for and mailing things to my address for someone who didn't have the same name, live on the same block, nothing. It took me months to get them to stop sending me sh*t all the time.

I just spole to cablevision they said that if you hit *57 after a phone call that it sends a report to their security center and after 3 instances you get a police report and then they change your number....I dont want my number changed I just want this dumb ****** to stop giving out my number. THey said they recycle numbers 30 days after it has been disconnected...ok that is fine then whY O whY is this dumb woman giving out my number on JAN12th of this year?!!!?!?!?!!?!??!!?!!?

thanks for hearing me rant....I am sorry I am sure u are reading this saying the easiest solution is to change but I have sooo much stuff connected to this phone number now y should I change b/c this lady is STUPID

This reminds me of when I was younger, we got phone calls (at all hours of the night) for YEARS at my parents' house for "CRYSTAL". Crystal was apparently someone who kept very late hours, and had a few very active business ventures going, if you catch my drift

When I lived in RVC years ago, I had the same problem. I got calls all day long for Donna and Eric F****. Everytime someone left a message on my phone with a call back number, I called and let them know they did not have the phone number anymore. I mean, I got serious calls about calling doctors, lawyers, etc. Sounds like this couple up and ran! It went on for years. Then it stopped.

Since you know where the person lives ... what if you mailed an anonymous letter to them (no return address) telling them of all the calls you've gotten for them & that it needs to stop?

What is really weird is I was getting calls for a Nicole too when we lived in our apartment....From collections agencies, from a female friend telling her about how drunk she was the night before...I mean I could see dialing the wrong number once but it became once a week....BIZARRE!

We get calls all the time for the people who had the # before us. If it's on the machine I just delete. If I talk to them I tell them wrong #.

This happened to us for a good year b/4 it started slowing down...calls for Peter & Pat P.....---calls from doctors offices, from her job (telling her the college was closed!), calls from the dentist (which happened to be the same dentist as us--weird), calls from the kids' school-----I mean after a year don't you update all this info??? Come on....

The only other thing I could think of is they are changing the number for when she shops or has to include a number when she orders stuff, etc. so she doesn't get annoying calls. I still give out my old number in Queens that still hasn't been reassigned.

Chrissy, we paid the $40 to keep our old phone # from Verizon when we switched to Optimum.

i wonder why they give out that #. maybe they think its a fake # and dont realize that someone will actually pick up the phone. cause i know when im shopping and people ask for my phone # i always make up a # off the top of my head or just take our phone # and change it up by a few digits. but its never the SAME # over and over again. they're definitely strange people.

sorry they're annoying so much. maybe you should block your # and prank call them! just call and hang up over and over! see how they like being annoyed!

I know it's annoying, but are you sure they are giving your number? Perhaps this number used to be theirs, and the doctors, credit people, best buy have this number in their file for these people.

We get the same thing, apparently a woman in the next town over had our number at one point then changed her number. From some of the messages I've heard on our machine, it sounds like she was trying to "fall off the face of the earth" from her friends. In the end, I just called back the doctors offices that called, and told them this person must have changed their number and to please update their files accordingly. Now we barely ever get those types of phone calls.

The same thing happened to us! For over 2 years, we have gotten calls for the previous owners of the number. In the beginning, we even got calls from their family members who didn't know they changed their number. Now, it is mostly creditors calling. I can't tell you how many times I have said to people that they no longer have this number. We had doctor's offices calling to confirm appointments. For a while, I was calliing back anyone who left their number on my machine with their message to tell them to tell the people to change the number. A few listened!
It got so bad for a while with creditors calling that we called the local police to file a report for harassment. I dn't know if they did anything about it since it still continues but at least they have it on record.

Apparently they didn't seem to wait long enough in giving that # out again. Have it changed.
