Outdoor kitchen - Granite
We are looking into having someone build an outdoor kitchen (grill, sink ). Some of the companies say you can do it with a kit or they will build up the structure and you supply the appliances (grill, etc ) and the granite. They didn't have any recommendations, so we have some questions.
Has anyone ordered their own granite? Where would you order from? Is it expensive (how much per sq ft)? Is there anything special to look for since it's outdoors? I've heard to order lighter colors due to the sun making it too hot.
TIA!

you would order it just like you would for an indoor kitchen.
You can price it out at HD, Lowes or any granite yard.
Price will depend on the granite you pick out and then the size and how many slabs you will need. There is no one price fits all.

Re: Outdoor kitchen - Granite
Get a light colored granite unless it is under a covered structure. Dark colors are ridiculously hot.

Re: Outdoor kitchen - Granite
I recommend going to a granite yard or store that specializes in countertops. That is what we did and we found that their prices are A LOT better than Lowe's or Home Depot.
We just got granite for our kitchen (being installed tomorrow actually) and we used Creative Stone and Cabinet in Selden. Nice selection, we got to choose our slab, and the prices were reasonable.
We ended up paying around $50/sq installed for our granite. The prices vary depending on how rare the granite is and how hard it is to mine, it is NOT based on quality. You don't have to worry that your granite is cheap crap just because it didn't cost an arm and a leg. It doesn't work that way.
If you're looking for some funky color, like blue for example, you're going to pay a lot more. More common colors, like browns/beige/etc, are going to save you some money.
