Outdoor Party & Rain...Anyone ever
host or attend an outdoor party on a rainy day? What happened as far as the party?
The weather doesn't look good for DS's 1st Birthday. We have a tent with side panels coming today but I can't imagine anyone would want to come to a party if it was raining. Our house isn't too big either and can't hold the number we have attending.
I have no idea what to do

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwe Ang I have no idea I just wanted to give you
We will be there, rain shine - whatever!! I am sure if the the tent will hold the rain off it will be just fine
You were having like 50 people no? We had 30 people at our housewarming in our 1 bedroom apartment. You can definitely make it work if you have to!
ETS: Let me know if you need anything!! We have some folding chairs and I have a 6 ft foldable table - don't know if you need these sort of things.

We had a tent for my e-party and it ended up raining.
The tents work out great! Everyone stayed outside. I think you will be fine!
ETA - that's what the tents are for!

Re: Outdoor Party & TRain...Anyone ever
Ang -
I went to a 1st birthday party - downpoured the entire time. Didn't stop anyone from having a great time.
Also - three weeks ago - remember the really bad rain - we had a Christening - under a tent - it was fine.
What I would suggest - have lots of towels available (maybe a few at each table) so that people can dry off the seats and table if they need to. I had to use Jack's blanket at the Christening.
I know it suxxx big time. We plan these events for such a long time and mother nature comes in and throws a wrench in our plans. Everyone will still have a blast with Lucas at his bash - I promise you.
If you need any last minute help - I'm here!

Re: Outdoor Party & TRain...Anyone ever
I went to high school graduation party and it rained the whole time. Mostly everyone showed up. Don't worry too much about it. It will work out. People WILL show up.
ETS: I read the title of the post "outdoor party & Train" and couldn't figure out what type of party you were throwing

I believe things like that work out. I went to an outdoor wedding once and it was rainy and it was fine. The staff had to move a few things around and the guests stayed under the tent - it was still a lovely wedding.
Try not to worry.

Re: Outdoor Party & Rain...Anyone ever
Thank you all so much - you all just restored some of my excitment about the party.
So happy to hear that the tents you all were under held up and I love the idea (Diana) of having towels at each table for people - for whatever reason.
DH said we should store the chairs in the garage until Saturday right before so they aren't too bad...not a bad idea.
Azad - thanks so much chicky...we have tables and chairs all set. I just appreciate your rain or shine attitude...Lucas is so lucky!

Re: Outdoor Party & Rain...Anyone ever
I really don't think rain would stop anyone from coming to a 1st birthday party for your DS. Maybe if it's really bad and someone has a long drive, but you shouldn't have a problem with guests not showing up. Don't worry, I'm sure everything will be fine and you'll be posting pics in no time!!!

Re: Outdoor Party & Rain...Anyone ever
I bet the rain won't deter people from coming. For Saturday, they're predicting on and off rain. Plus it will still be warm. It's his first birthday. Most people wouldn't miss that for the world! Have a great time!!!!!!!!

Re: Outdoor Party & Rain...Anyone ever
We had a party at my parents once in POURING rain - the tent worked well. I agree with the towel idea -- just keep a few around if people need them.
Also, make sure there is a good mat by your door so when people go inside to use the bathroom or anything like that they can wipe their feet. Maybe even have a few towels there.
Also, my Mom was so nervous about people being cramped in the house-- but a lot of people stayed outside. Some people (especially the older relatives) did tend to spend more time in the house, but just go with it and enjoy the party.
Remember the reason of the party is to celebrate your little man turning one....rain or shine!!

Re: Outdoor Party & Rain...Anyone ever
Every single event/ party I have ever planned, it has rained.
Seriously...EVERY. SINGLE. ONE!!!
Damn that Mother Nature.
But seriously, the show must go on. People partied under the tents. Old people went in the house. Kids splashed in puddles.
It all works out!
Good luck and I will for the sun for Lucas!!!

Re: Outdoor Party & Rain...Anyone ever
We were prepared with 1 10x12 tent and 1 10x10 tent. It was a beautiful sunny morning....but then the clouds rolled in and about 15-20 minutes into the party the rains came.
I feared people would back out, but to the contrary- EVERYONE that said yes was there and even a few extra people that DH invited (via word of mouth) showed!

Re: Outdoor Party & Rain...Anyone ever
Our engagement party was on my sister's deck in the pouring rain. Luckily, we rented a large tent with side panels so it turned out just fine. Awesome, actually. It was an evening event and everyone danced and ate and drank just like they would have if it were nice out. The pounding rain and thunder actually added to the ambiance. It really was one of the best parties ever, so many of our friends and family still talk about it. The only thing was that we couldn't run around the yard or bounce on the trampoline, but that was probably a good thing.

We went to an e party last year and the rain was nuts. Once the drinks started getting served no one cared about the rain. We all had a great time. Tents were up we were warm and had a blast.

Its a party....Who cares if it rains.
Just a thought if it does rain.....no need to wash the kitchen floors...they will be dirty and you will be washing them again the next morning
