overweight golden retriever
I wouldn't say she is super overweight but I do know that her breed can easily gain weight and it's not good for them. I cut down the amount of scoops as per the vet but my kids sneak her food when they are clearly told not to. Should I switch her to a weight loss type food? Since it's been so cold she doesnt' get her long walks like she is used to so it's just a combo of everything.

Re: overweight golden retriever
When our golden gained weight our vet suggested reaplcing one cup of food per feeding with frozen string beans ... kept the dog full but no calories. He was also on Iams Less Active/Weight Management (I don't know which it's called now - this was years ago).

Re: overweight golden retriever
OOh that is a cool thing, I never knew about the frozen string beans. I mean my dog will eat anything to the point where she will throw up. I really need to keep the kids from feeding her and also need to keep her away from my puppy's food because it's so fattening.

Re: overweight golden retriever
Casey (golden) is overweight too...well she was she lost some weight..we give her Nutro for less active dogs. Also, when the weather's nice we take her to the dog park to race around. We also had to cut back on the amount of crunchies per day.

My vet has my dog on the "string bean diet" as well... though I'm using canned because I am too lazy to cook the frozen ones

We didn't cook them! Straight from the bag - we kept them in the fridge.
