Overwhelmingly sad for my kids
I don’t know why but having my kids pick up their supplies made me burst into tears. Picturing their classrooms full of life a couple months ago and now so dark and empty. And thinking about next year makes me even sadder. If they go back how cold and sterile it’s going to be. I’m tearing up just writing this. I just needed to let it out and see if it’s just me? This is not the life I want for my kids ??

I feel like you. I am so sad about how life has changed so drastically for them. I know there are much worse things and I am still lucky but that doesn't mean I can't or deserve to grieve the losses.

Re: Overwhelmingly sad for my kids
It was really sad, and it is normal to grieve for what was. Today was the last day of school for my kids. My daughter’s fifth grade teacher lost his mom, so as class parent I brought over a bagel platter to his home. He was so happy to see my daughter. It honest gave her he closure she needed. I feel terrible he lost his mom and he missed the fifth grade clap out. So it was really sad.

Overwhelmingly sad for my kids
I went alone to pick up their things and I cried as well.
And for my son's promotion parade I cried - not because he finished elementary but because of how he finished.

I had the same reaction going in and picturing the beautiful classrooms and life and time just stopping. Heartbroken. Love my kids' teachers. Mourning all the times they never got to have. You're not alone.

Re: Overwhelmingly sad for my kids
I cried this morning :( my son's teacher made a video for the kids of all their special moments during the year and I cried like a baby...such a weird last day. Plus we usually get together with other families and all the kids have a big play date at the beach but not today :(
The thing that stuck out to me when I was watching the highlight video was how much extra curricular activities the kids do and enjoy and this makes their school year. Not sure this will even happen in the coming year and that makes me so sad.

Re: Overwhelmingly sad for my kids
I straight out sobbed for 20 minutes when it was announced that school was closed for the rest of the year. I had DH go with her to pick up her supplies last month because I couldn't deal with it. It's not fair. It's especially not fair to the 5th graders who's last months in the elementary school they grew up in was ripped away. And the graduating seniors who's prom and graduation- memories you can NEVER EVER get back- are gone.
My DD has been good through all this- better and more resilient than me- but the other day her and I had it out because she is just horrible to try to teach- she was zoning out, doesn't try, etc. I found her in her room later sobbing that she "just wants things to go back to normal" that she misses school and her teacher and friends.
It broke my heart. I'm her mom and I can't help her. I'm helpless.
I am not concerned about her catching this virus- in fact I think she had it in march. As a child it is pretty much a non issue. I am so so upset and worried for her emotional and mental health and her education.

Overwhelmingly sad for my kids
This makes me feel so much better. I was so sad about this that I thought there was something wrong with me. I didn’t want to post in our school Facebook group because I thought it was only me.

Overwhelmingly sad for my kids
I had to go last month to get my daughters stuff. DD had to come with me that day. I cried pulling into the parking lot, cried walking down the hall, cried in the class, cried leaving the class and back to my truck. My daughter hugged me and told me “”mommy. It will be OK”. (She’s 8) Then proceeded to tell her her friends over FaceTime all I did was cry! Lol.

Overwhelmingly sad for my kids
Nope you’re not alone. I’m so devastated for my kids. DS, who has made zero complaints since the beginning, finally asked when he’s going back to school. It’s really such a nightmare.
