P/T Holiday retail job
Anyone have one? I am toying with the idea of maybe 2 nights and a weekend day... Anyone have any suggestions on good stores to work for, maybe ones that pay well? I have lots of retail experience, but from years ago... And my FT job is in S Setauket, so I can probably include the Smithhaven mall in my search. Also nearby are Bed Bath and Beyond, Marshalls, Home Goods, Kohls, Target, Best Buy, etc. I am pregnant- do you think I will not be able to find a job? I'm not sooooo pregnant- just 5 months. Any advice is appreciated!

Re: P/T Holiday retail job
Ya know i was tossing this idea around as well. Maybe at BBB. It's literally right behind me. I am not sure though. I dont think just because you are pregnant you will have a hard time finding a P/T job for the holidays

Re: P/T Holiday retail job
I don't have a P/T job. If I had to choose one, I would look to go to Bed Bath and Beyond. You'd probably get some good discounts!

Re: P/T Holiday retail job
Im sure you will get hired...they are always looking.
I know they may require more hrs from you, esp on weekends!!!
Places like Bath and Body are affliated with VS and offer discounts in both places. I know pay isnt the best per hr.
Bed & Bath pays well from what I hear.
GL!
I have done retail during the holidays...it sux!

Re: P/T Holiday retail job
I already have 2 jobs and i wanted to work another one just for the holidays
There is something wrong with me!
I think the best stores are retail box stores (not clothing). You get some good deals that way

I saw a sign at Ulta that they were hiring...I'd do Pier 1 or Ulta.

Re: P/T Holiday retail job
I've thought about doing this as well. The extra money would be really nice. I was going apply to work at the customer service at smithhaven mall selling mall gift cards but it said must work black friday and xmas eve. I won't be in town on xmas eve.
I am thinking Best Buy also, I heard they have great discounts.

I'm not fancy enough for Ulta- but Pier 1 is the best idea ever.

Posted by MeNBobs Being pregnant may work to your advantage. They may let you leave at a more reasonable time and the customers won't yell at you when the store runs out of shirt boxes.

REALLY! I did it for 8 years and i 100% hated it. Especially during the holidays. I was also a manager and had to be there at rediculous times, but i hated working the holiday season.

Oh well that's the trifecta right there. No wonder. I did it maybe 3 times, and not full years- and I was a lowly employee.

Re: P/T Holiday retail job
I used to work at Sears Portrait Studio and I know they hire seasonal workers. It's fun but you need a lot of patience and you're on your feet the entire time..and now just on your feet, dancing around and acting like a lunatic to get cranky kids in velvet to laugh

I don't know of there's one by you, I live in White Plains, but Bloomigdales always hires seasonal workers and you get great discounts.

Re: P/T Holiday retail job
I did it last year at Macys, but I worked Friday night, Sat-Sun. I was burned out from commuting M-F, then wasting my weekend away at Macys.
I now sell on ebay and actually make more than I did at Macys. Plus, I can do it WHEN I WANT TO in my PJs!!

Re: P/T Holiday retail job
I would think anywhere from $10-12 would be fair. But I think some of the lower end stores may only pay in the $8 range.

Re: P/T Holiday retail job
Bookstores hire holiday help too.
I'm not sure if they would require too much lifting for a pregnant woman, but they probably have just cashier or information desk jobs too.
I think a seasonal job won't care too much if you are PG, unless it invovles physical labor.
You might also be able to get a job working for the mall--at the gift wrapping office/mall services office, if they have one.
