Pacifier question...
Is/was your newborn able to keep the pacifier in his/her mouth on their own?
DD is 2+ months, but for whatever reason, she won't keep the pacifier in her mouth, I have to hold it for her. Is it b/c of her age? Or is it the pacifiers I'm using?
So far I've tried these two: the Avent and the Nuk Orthodontic
Just wondering what worked for you girls.
Thanks!

Re: Pacifier question...
She can keep the nuks in the best, others fell out more easily (particularly the avent). She loses the nuk sometimes too, but not as often. (she's 3 months)
Not sure if the nuks we have are the orthodontic ones, but he shape of the nipple definitely makes a difference.

What kind of nipple do your nuks have?
Jill gags on the orthodontic ones and she can only seem to keep the Avents in for 30 seconds tops.
Do they have pacifiers that are more rounded like a bottle nipple???

yes, from 3 days old, she's always been a strong sucker. Could it be, she just doesn't want it?

She takes it (when she's tired) and sucks on it, but if I don't gently press on it and keep it there for her, it will fall out.

I checked, and they look like the orthodontic ones. She's a strong sucker, but she wasnt interested in pacifiers until the last month or so and even now she only takes one when she's going to sleep at night.

Re: Pacifier question...
Ryan had no problem with this but we have friends that have a 6 week old that cannot keep the pacifier in his mouth on his own. They have to hold it in for him.

Mine never wanted it so I didn't force it. Now she uses it to chew on until her teeth break through........

Re: Pacifier question...
My DS wouldn't take the pacifier. We actually wound up really not using one. We had it and used it a handful of times. He would spit it out and no problem. maybe she doesn't need one. There were times that it would have kept him quiet but I had to just let him cry it out. Keep trying but if she doesn't take it don't force it - just a suggestion. DS is 7 months old and has slept fine without it.

I agree...my boys like the Nuk better and the Avent ones do fall out a lot.

Re: Pacifier question...
Both my kids used pacis for the first 3 months before finding their thumbs. THankfully because the paci never stayed in their mouth. They both did this projectile thing when they thrust it out of thier mouth.

Have you used the Soothie ones? These are great, its the ones we got at the hospital and I also found htey carry them in BRU and Target. Get the green ones, they are for newborns.

Re: Pacifier question...
unfortunately my son loves the ugly soothie one from the hospital I dont care for it because there's no where to latch it onto a binky-clip. what do soothie-moms do ? my other boys loved the nuks and I even bought Luciano a bunch, but he doesnt seem to like em as much (but im working on him )

Those are hysterical!!! I love 'em!!
DD currently does the "projectile" thing with her paci, so I'm gonna' give those soothies a try! Thanks!!!!
She's found her fist (I find her sucking on that in the crib) and I think it's only a matter of time before she finds her thumb, but I figured it was better that she used a paci over her thumb. I can always toss a paci away, while getting rid of her thumb won't be so easy.

Re: Pacifier question...
Marron has always had trouble keeping them in. We have tried the Soothie, the Avent, and the Mam ones. All of them still fall out and she is 5 months old already. I don't know what the answer is. Now, she can at least use her own hands when she feels like it to hold it in.
She too likes the Soothies the best. As far as the binky-clip, the company says that the ribbon from the other clips will fit through one of the holes on the Soothie. I guess you have to roll it up real small to fit it through the hole though because I tried it and it didn't work. Maybe it will for you?

Re: Pacifier question...
Hannah's ped. suggested using a paci to help with relux since saliva will naturally lubricate her throat and the esophogeal motions.
She never took to any of the orthodontal pacifiers and only took the Gerber which was a fight in the beginning.
That's what she wound up taking and still uses
