Paint finish question.
Is "glossy" and "satin" the same type of finish?
I've never heard of a satin finish and have always used glossy. But when I called a painter for an estimate he asked if I was using matte or satin... I was so confused.

Re: Paint finish question.
In order of shininess
Gloss semi-gloss satin eggshell flat (matte)

Re: Paint finish question.
Our painter does satin finish on the walls (just a hint of shine), flat finish on the ceilings (totally matte) and gloss finish on all of our trim (shiny so it pops next to the walls).
If that helps.
Edited Correction: eggshell finish on the walls, not satin.

Re: Paint finish question.
OOOOK, my mistake! After looking at the order of "shiny-ness" I realize I've used glossy for the moulding and eggshell on my walls.
Now his question makes more sense!
Thanks!
