I agree. The whole "super mom in your face" stuff is not appealing to me at all.

The only person who has to live up to MY standards with regard to parenting is me.
It's her baby and I will defer to her as the mother of her child and believe that she knows what works best for her family.

I don't really agree, I don't think most people would question why a little baby wasn't at an event like this.
I'm not saying I think the baby should be there but I agree she will get criticized no matter she does b/c if she doesn't bring him with her people will say and they already have that she's prioritized her career over her child b/c she's spending so much time away from an infant.
I already believe this - the moment she accepted the VP bid with a 17 year old PG daughter- you don't have to be media savvy to know that all the media was going to go crazy about that story - putting her vulnerable teenager into the limelight... She really did sacrafice her daughter's right to privacy for her career... just my opinion... (sorry I know its OT - but it really bugs me)
I also thought the baby should not have been at the debates - and I do read into it that her advisors want the baby there to show what a great mom she is.

I dont see what the big deal is but its one of those situations where the line is blurred. She could have been doing it for votes or she really probably took her baby there because she wanted him there. We will never know just assume.

What bothered me the most was her youngest daughter walking off the stage carrying a baby that was almost her size...I was so afriad she was going to trip or fall with the baby. I was screaming at the TV..."will someone take that baby from her!".

ITA....
There is a total different time in Alaska, maybe it was not the babies bedtime yet. BUT.....She is getting burned for having the baby there, she would get burned if she left him home. Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

Casting aside the 'she did it for the votes' argument for a minute ... I think your view on this would depend on your experience with your child.
My son would have been fine last night there. At a year old he's still a very good baby - sleeps anywhere, goes to everyone who puts their arms out, flirts with anyone who walks by, hangs out in a carriage for a long time without crying, etc. I can rearrange his nap schedule to fit our needs and he doesn't get all out of sorts or thrown off schedule.
So if her child is like this and is fine then I don't see it as a big deal at all.
As for the 'she did it for the votes argument' - that's a separate issue entirely.

Personally I would not have had the baby at any of those events just because of the noise mainly as I know when my DD was that age she got startled easily. I am not a fan of S. Palin politically but I do admit she is damned if she does and damned if she does not. If she didnt take him they would be saying that either 1) she doesnt take care of her kids and what sort of mom is she 2) because he has DS she was hiding him. She cannot win on this one and as we all know the media in general jumps all over people in the media with kids.

One of the things I have learned as a new mother is to not JUDGE anyone else's parenting. She knows what is best for HER child, everyone else should MYOB. The baby looked fine-he was not screaming or crying, he did not look like he was afraid or starving or being mistreated.
If someone made a comment to me about how I shouldn't have DD somewhere that DH and I had decided to take her, I'd tell them to stick it.

I disagree that she would have been bashed if her kids did not attend the debate.It would never have occurred to me that they would have been there.
I would think the older ones would go because it's part of a historical moment. But the younger ones? No. I don't bring my kids to work.
The only reason it bothers me that her younger kids were there is they only served one purpose - to push the "mom" angle. I don't like that at all.

I don't mean this against the op but as a mom I get so annoyed at the judgements with decisions like this - why do people feel the need to judge other people's parenting all the time? When my grandma passed away I agonized over whether to bring DS to the wake/funeral...I brought him to the wake for a bit - kept him in the back the whole time and got a comment from a family member about traumatizing him (he was 11mos) that nearly broke my heart - needless to say, I kept him out of the funeral - only to get comments from OTHER family members about why he wasn't there and should have been. As a mom - you can't win! I just wish we would all be less judgemental! Until I b/c a mom I never realized how pervasive judgements were :( I know it is different to some extent b/c she is a political figure and I hope this doesn't offend the op!

I was thinking that too! but, I just let my cousin's daughter who is only 8 walk all over the place with my 8 month old so I really shouldn't talk!

ITA - it was making me soooo nervous - I kept waiting for her to fall. Notice how the dad didn't hold the baby at all???

i am not a palin fan at all but i believe SHE and only she knows what is best for her baby. i will not judge her for her choice. and they were not on EST so it wasn't as late as it was here.

On a side note,
Arianna LOVES noise and won't go to sleep without it..
8pm is not late for her at ALL!
Who am I to judge this woman's parenting skills, I don't care, I want her political skills. After all, its like judging a man for his marriage skills (haha!)

I agree with this. Although I was  when her youngest daughter was holding the baby.
I took Jordana with me everywhere when she was that young. She could sleep through anything. I took her to restaurants, to dinner, anywhere.
If it were me, I would have left the infant at home- mainly because i would be worried about him. At home, I know he is OK. But that's just me.
I won't vote for her because, except for her position on Israel, I disagree wtih just about everything she stands for. But what she is doing with her children has no affect on me, unless she wants to implement them into policy (e.g. abstience only education).

I agree, but I think they were in Washington State weren't they? Still not really an appropriate place for a baby IMO What bothered me most was her daughter carrying the baby down and around the stage after the debate. I kept thinking heaven forbid the little girls was to trip or something. I'm not sure how old she is, looked about 9yrs old to me, but it seemed like maybe the baby was a bit much for her to be walking around with him, especially up and down the stairs. It just made me nervous.
ETA I am not judging her, this will not effect whether or not I will vote for her, but I would not bring my baby to this forum....thats all.

ITA! So her baby is there, big deal, my kids were great sleepers and stayed out late with me lots of times even at parties. Its looks like she has a lot of help anyway.
