Pants' washing instructions read 'Give it to your woman'
A pair of chinos has sparked a Twitter debate over what's funny and what's downright sexist. Emma Barnett, the digital media editor for the U.K.'s Daily Telegraph tweeted a pic of the washing label on a new pair of pants her boyfriend purchased. The label gives wearers basic cotton instructions, as well as the tip, "or give it to your woman, it's her job." The company that sold the pants, Madhouse Fashion, responded by tweeting that it had failed to proof the care instructions, which it says were "clearly meant to be a joke," and "will be more careful in the future."

I think it's funny, I took it in a tongue in cheek kind of way.

If it stated just "give it to your women", I would think its absolutely hilarious. It's the "its her job" that makes me cringe.

Ditto.
I've heard of clothes that say "Give it to your mom, she knows how to do it." on the care instructions. I thought that was a good one.

Re: Pants' washing instructions read 'Give it to your woman'
It would have been funnier and more easily defendable if they didn't apologize for it
i agree that saying 'give it to your woman' by itself is a lot funnier, and than adding 'its her job'

DH thinks it's the funniest shit in the world. I also think it's pretty funny. Imagine washing your clothes and seeing that?! I'd pee myself.

I can see the humor in the concept, but the fact that there is a company representing themselves that way really scares me.

Part of me thinks it is funny. The other part of me thinks that those pants not making it out of the laundry in one piece is even funnier.

Re: Pants' washing instructions read 'Give it to your woman'
I think it's hysterical! If my husband ever does a load of laundry in my house, he is guaranteed to ruin at least 1 article of clothing. It IS my job because if he does it I end up spending more money on replacement clothes!

Re: Pants' washing instructions read 'Give it to your woman'
after all the debate on the abortion and BC threads about attacks on womens rights, etc., i am really shocked that you all find that funny. if anything, that is a slap in the face outright. it's right there in print: your job as a woman is the laundry. I mean, it doesn't bother me in the slightest, as my husband does his own damn laundry. But i just think it's pretty ironic.

I find it humorous because it's so antiquated. I don't see it as a slap in the face. Maybe if it had a grain of truth or relevance in my life, I'd be annoyed by it. I can separate the absurdity from debates on women's rights.
FTR, my husband does his own laundry. Before he met me, he probably thought along those lines because his family was very traditional. Personally, I think the warning sign attached should be

I don't think you're missing anything... I just feel like companies are usually pretty politically correct and careful, and the fact that one would say something like that feels disconcerting to me. If my husband says something jokingly sexist, that's one thing. But a company making a public statement feels bigger, and along with some other questionable stuff that's going on re:women's issues right now, I don't like the implication.

Gotcha. Is this a british company (or european)? I wonder, if that's the case, if that has any implication here.
