Re: Paralyzed bank manager terminally ill with brain cancer fights for her right to die
This is so sad and so horrible. I cannot imagine what it is like for either side. Just horrible and tragic all around for all parties. My heart really goes out to them. I cannot imagine what is going on in their heads, both sides.

Re: Paralyzed bank manager terminally ill with brain cancer fights for her right to die
UPDATE from News12
UPDATE - COURT RULES IN FAVOR OF TERMINALLY ILL PATIENT: The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of a woman who is terminally ill and wants the right to die. Grace Sung Eun Lee, 28, has inoperable cancer of the brain stem and has been on life support at North Shore University Hospital. Grace's parents filed an appeal but it has been denied and she has been found competent to make her own medical decisions. She is now free to decide what she wants to do.
I pray her parents honor the decision and let her go in peace.

Re: Paralyzed bank manager terminally ill with brain cancer fights for her right to die
Could you even imagine the strength and courage and - I don't even know what to call it - to BEG for death? To say, "ok this is it. I want to die."?! And to come to terms with that? I can't even being to imagine.
I feel for her parents, I really do, but they are being selfish here. The longer they make her suffer, the longer she has to think about wanting to die. I hope her parents find it in themselves to give one last thing to their daughter and let her die in peace.
So, so sad.

Re: Paralyzed bank manager terminally ill with brain cancer fights for her right to die
She's not a child - Yes, she's their daughter, and I can not even imagine how those parents must feel .....
But she is a 28 year old woman with a life and a a career and a home and a MIND of her own. This isn't a CHILD
How could they be so disrespectful of their own daughter who is literally begging them to let her go?
Of COURSE she's depressed - she's dying. She's hooked up to machines simply to keep her body functioning .....she doesn't want to live that way and they are forcing her to contiune .......I'm horrified by this.
I feel awful for those parents, but in the end, it's not about them - it's about her. She is the one who is sick and in pain and suffering - it's her life.

Re: Paralyzed bank manager terminally ill with brain cancer fights for her right to die
The parents are being selfish in so many ways. They are not understanding that their daughter is terminal. They keep hoping that she will get better. That their faith is so strong is great, but in reality their daughter is getting worse instead of better. They also believe that the daughter will not go to heaven if she commits suicide, although the daughter and the judge do not believe it to be suicide.
The Times reported an interesting tidbit that further demonstrates the selfishness of the parents :
In his letter to the church, Ms. Lee’s father said that because his first two children were boys, he had wanted a girl, to lift his family’s long curse. All of its girls, he wrote, had died at birth.
In court, he said that “in our family, there’s a lot of males, but there’s only one daughter.” When he thought of losing her, he said, “everything goes black.”
I pray that Grace passes easily, without pain, and with the love of her family.

Re: Paralyzed bank manager terminally ill with brain cancer fights for her right to die
Absolutely devastating. I feel so bad for her and her family. Culturally, they are very superstitious and parents have huge input no matter how old a child is. and to put religion on top of that In their mind, she will go to a bad place if she makes this decision and will never be at peace. this is why her parents want her to hold on. I can't imagine something so horrible. I believe it is her decision to make

Re: Paralyzed bank manager terminally ill with brain cancer fights for her right to die
To be honest, I wouldn't even think of this as a suicide. She's not asking for euthanasia, she's asking to be taken off of the machines and to leave her fate in God's hands. I hope her parents come to realize this and they can let her go in peace. My heart breaks for them, too, though.
