Re: Parent Teacher Conferences
I don't know if the whole district does this, but our school does them both during the day and at night.
They also have them over multiple days so it's fairly easy to get something that works for you, or the teacher is allowed to do them at another time or over the phone if you really can't make any of the appointments.

Re: Parent Teacher Conferences
Mine offers mornings before school and directly after school ends (3:20)
Also mid-day (I guess during lunch/specials)
I believe there is also a conference day you can chose that the kids are off for..
They also offer phone conference ...

Re: Parent Teacher Conferences
My kids attend a private school right now and conferences are only given during the day and right after a major holiday. According to my contract, I am not allowed to request the day before/after a vacation.
It's 2011, 70% of moms across the nation work outside the home, and many, many parents are single parents. In this economy, many workers are afraid to request time-off or their time-off has been reduced or maxed out due to other issues... they live in fear asking their boss for yet more time off.
I think only offering them during the day is not fair to today's parents.
And yes, I am a teacher and my district offers them both during the afternoon and late evening hours. I meet with parents until 9 p.m. and I am back in the classroom at 6:30 a.m. the next day.

Re: Parent Teacher Conferences
Both, but the evening sessions fill up immediately, so we usually do an early morning session, but evenings are offered.

Re: Parent Teacher Conferences
Our only district only does afternoon conferences, over 3 days. It has never been a problem for me since I am a SAHM but I realize how much of a pain it must be for working parents!

Re: Parent Teacher Conferences
My kids go to private school. The kids get dismissed at noon. The conferences are from 1-4 and then again from 6-8. They are only on that one afternoon/evening but it's a pretty small school and there has never been any issues. In the afternoon session, they offer child care with the After Cares program.

Re: Parent Teacher Conferences
As far as I know for all the years I have been in the Sachem District, they are only during the day.

Re: Parent Teacher Conferences
Our district offers both and asked that if you are a stay at home parent, to please leave the evening appointments for the working parents.

Re: Parent Teacher Conferences
My DD's is during the day. she is in K. I did hear that some of the older grades had them at night though. I think they split it depending on grade. Like maybe K-2 in the day and 3-5 in the PM. I know you can do a telephone conference though if need be.

Re: Parent Teacher Conferences
Our school offers both.. but the evening and early morning appointments fill up FAST. Most of the teachers manage to find time to fit you in if you miss one of the coveted non-day hours.
