what is the reason why they are NOT in preschool (or daycare) and are you planning on sending them to preschool at all ? Or will you just send them straight to kindergarten when the time comes?

Just curious

DS is 2 and not in preschool. He's home with a nanny. I personally dont feel "school" is necessary at age 2 but I will be sending him next Sept right before he turns 3. He takes a few classes a week and has almost daily playdates with children his age who live on our street.

I would have sent him at 2+ last September (he was born end of June) but since he gets therapies, he will go only at 3. I will have sent him at 3 anyway. I need him to have some interactions with other kids.

DD doesn't go to preschool or daycare, she's 2.5. MIL watches her 3 days/week, a friend watches her 1 day/week, and I'm home with her the other 3 days. It's just an unnecessary expense at this point for us since we are very lucky and get free childcare for all but 1 day/week.

She will be starting preschool in the Fall. She'll be a little over 3. I wanted her in a program at around age 3, and the timing is perfect, because MIL will then be watching the new baby and DD will go to school.

DS was going to start school in September (he was just under 2.5) but I lost my job. Since he wasn't enrolled yet, it was better for us to just keep him home.

My mom offered to pay for a semester, so we are looking at schools now.

Mine turned three in October and is not in preschool since she missed the cutoff (sept 30) to get into the 3'c class where I want to send her. So she'll go next year. Plus the extra money for that each month would put us in a tight spot right now.

1. Can't afford it on top of the nanny (who watches both my 3 year old and newborn).
2. We have nobody to drive him there and back since we both work.
3. I'm not convinced that spending 2 hours per day, 3 days per week, is going to do any more for him than he already gets spending time with his cousins and our friends' children.

I may consider sending him in September (when he will be almost 4) if we can afford it and can work out transportation.

Right now, we are thinking of sending him to preschool when he is 3. The reasons are:

1. Cost (he misses the school cutoff so he would go to prek for 3 years if he goes at 2)
2. Uncertainty of my work schedule--I have no idea when I will find a job. I have no idea what sort of childcare we will have for him at this point. I would prefer daycare, but the ones near us all have lengthy waits, so he may be with a babysitter. Which would mean I would like prek, but there are none in walking distance really, plus it gets $$$.

My son is almost 2.5 and not in preschool. While I think he'd love school, I presonally don't see the reason for it at 2 years old. While my son is a talker, I feel like he can't communicate with me what he is doing there and how he is feeling and that concerns me. I am a SAHM mom, so there is no rush as far as needing it for child care. He is registered for PreK3 in the fall. He'll be 3 by September. I started my older son in Prek when he was 3 too. For now, we do mommy and me once a week and will start gymnastics in a month.
