Parents of day care babies

DS is scheduled to start daycare on September 1st, which is my first day back at work. I was wondering if any mommies started their DC in day care a few days before they went back to get the baby and yourself adjusted? I am already so nervous about leaving him, I was thinking of starting him the Wed. before, and have him go 3 half days before he starts full time. I don't know if I would feel better on his first day knowing I am home and can go get him early, or if I should just do this all day from the beginning. What did other moms do? TIA! Chat Icon

I would do it like you said, a few half days before you go back to work. I did the first day as a half day (cried my eyes out too and wouldn't have wanted to go to work like that) and then the 2nd day is when I went back to work. Chat Icon

Re: Parents of day care babies

When my DD first started daycare...the first week we started slow. The first day, I stayed in the room for like an hour and played with her...then left for about 1-2 hours. Each day I stayed in the room less and less and increased the amount of hours she stayed for the day. I did this more for myself than for her...let's face it, she was 14 weeks old.

Be prepared, it's heart-wrenching leaving your little baby behind Chat Icon But now, she's 20 months old and LOVES daycare. She has lots of 'friends' and has learned tons of stuff (letters, numbers, says tons of words).

Good luck!

We did a transition week which was good because he cried a lot the first day. He was 6 months at the time...

Thanks ladies! Chat Icon
Maybe tomorrow I will call the daycare and see if I can move his start date to the week before. Like someone said, it will be more for me than for him, he will be barely 4 months old. This going back to work thing is going to be so hard!Chat Icon
